Ultrasound at 16w - can it be wrong

Hi
I had a private ultrasound scan at 16w and we were keeping as a surprise so the sonographer put it on the picture - a girl. The sonographer was having trouble with the angle and kept saying baby’s legs are closed. At my 12w scan with the nhs they showed us the nub and said most likely boy. We are very confused now. As we didn’t see the scan at 16 weeks - closed our eyes .. we don’t know what to think! My first pregnancy was a girl and it was very different. Having a hard time processing it all. Read a number of articles where 16w scans have been wrong

can someone look at the picture and share your view?

If you really want tp know look at the heart rate. Girls are always higher bpm than boys

Hahahaha...
2nd pregnancy was exactly the same as my first (boy)
Same sickness
Bump shape
Head shape
Ring test
And 130 BPM heart rate..
A boy heart rate I was told.
Guess what? A girl!

Then with my 3rd pregnancy every little thing pointed to a girl..
Ring Test
Higher heartbeat
Head shape
Bump shape
More sickness
Etc etc
Even the consultant said girl..7lb he said
Guess what?
9lb boy!

At this stage I think it's very difficult to tell. The baby is still very small and a penis on a 16 week baby will be miniscule. I'm surprised they told you anything at 12 weeks tbh, especially in the nhs. I had my dating scan with ds3 at 17 weeks and they said it was too early to tell.

Not necessarily true
we had a 14+5 scan and it was VERY obvious we were having a boy

Why don't you just wait and see you said you wanted a surprise

sarahc336 · 24/04/2024 22:00

Heart rate stuff is a myth, you can't accurately date at 12 weeks from the nub 🤦🏻‍♀️ 16 weeks likely accurate though so I'd believe them

I’ll be honest, don’t post these gender scans on here. People can be so judgemental and rude on this site, post it on those Facebook groups, they are much nicer and will actually help by giving their opinion. I had similar post to yours today and I had to ask for it to be taken down as people here just want to say their unneeded opinions and judgement x

We had a private scan at 16 weeks, she struggled to see as legs were in way but eventually said girl, had to go to 2 fetal medicine scans at 20 weeks and both confirmed girl. Incidentally our NHS trust won't tell you sex but we had to go to another hospital for the extra scans who actually asked us if we wanted to know.
I think the private sonographer would rather have you back and re scan if unsure rather than guess and get it wrong so I'd be fairly confident.

Doesn't look dissimilar to our scans and both were girls, I had very different pregnancies with both of them

Look up skull theory. I accurately predicted my baby to be a girl by using skull theory when looking at her 12w scan. Sex was confirmed at the 20w scan. Your scan photos aren't great so it's difficult to tell.

Don’t think that scan photo was worth the money.

Seems odd to have the chance of seeing your baby and you close your eyes, just for the sake of a party

12 week looks like a girly nub too
