Child may have strep throat/impetigo, is it dangerous to baby?

Had to take DD to walk in medical centre today as she's had a sore throat since Thursday which has got progressively worse to the point it looks like tonsillitis. She also had a cold sore on her lip and looks like one in her nostril. The doctor we saw gave her antibiotics but also took a throat swab as she said it could be strep throat but we won't get results until Wednesday. Anyway we've come home and I've stupidly googled strep throat in pregnancy just in case that's what DD has and I catch it, and I read that strep throat can also cause impetigo which I'm thinking that may be what the sores on her mouth and in her nose are? I'm now getting in a flap as should I call midwife in the morning to get advice even though I won't know til Wednesday if it's just tonsillitis/cold sores or strep throat/impetigo? Or as DD is already now on antibiotics should I just wait it out and see how things go? Sorry for the long rant it's been a bit of a bloody day 😵‍💫

I wouldn't worry.

Any illness like tonsillitis can trigger cold sores, I wouldn't worry about impetigo. I get cold sores (also up my nose) from simply being too tired.

How does the throat look? Ds has had about 40 bouts, mostly tonsillitis, but a few strep in the last 2 years... For him, strep always comes with red spots all over the roof of the mouth, while tonsillitis is limited to the white patchy tonsils alone (obviously swollen in both cases).

Baby would likely be fine if you caught strep from your daughter.
If the cold sores are caused by herpes then that can be very dangerous to newborns so you'll need her to avoid any contact with baby if she has any cold sores when baby is born

Oh yes, if she has cold sores when baby comes, compeed coldsore patches are incredible. Aside form forming an obvious barrier to keeping safe, they actually stop them developing further. I've been using them since having the kids and we've managed 5 years so far with no one catching them from me, amidst co sleeping with both!

Thanks everyone, I've come back today and read my post and felt like a right wally for worrying so much 😅

You can get strep tests on Amazon and also instant ones like COVID tests in the chemist. I've no idea why they don't keep these in the doctors x
