Risk of slapped cheek late in pregnancy

Hi all just looking for some advice,

My 3yo’s playgroup has just notified me that there has been a case of slapped cheek in the setting. He hasn’t been there since Thursday so I’m presuming he should be fine for now but is due back in tomorrow morning.

They made a point of saying that pregnant women need to be extra cautious due to the risks to unborn babies. I’m 36+2 weeks, I’m pretty sure I’ve never had slapped cheek myself.

Obviously the safety of my unborn baby (and my 3yo’s health) comes first but am I being OTT to keep him off for the week or is that the sensible thing to do? I wouldn’t be able to work as planned if I were to keep him home tomorrow and me and my husband have both said what’s to stop him from catching it from someone else the week after for example, so really unsure what to do. I’ve messaged my midwife but not expecting a reply until the morning when it will probably already be by the time he is due in.

please no mean responses I just want to do the right thing for everyone 😫

Thank you!

Hi, I work in a primary school with cases of slapped cheek so have been doing a lot of research into this. All the evidence indicates that contracting it is mainly a concern from weeks 9-20 and there is significantly less risk contracting it or passing it on to baby later in pregnancy. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reassurance @piechipsgravy thats made me feel a lot better as I don’t know if he was in contact with the child last week anyway so could already be too late! I’ve decided I’m going to keep him off tomorrow for my own peace of mind and will decide what to do for the rest of the week once I’ve spoken to the midwife/playgroup.
