Anti e antibodies?

Hi,

Just want to get on here to ask if anyone has had any experience with having anti e antibodies in their bloods? This is my third baby and with my previous two I didn't have this. However with my first I did end up needing blood transfusion because of 4th degree tear.

My second born had no issues whatsoever throughout whole pregnancy and nothing came up in bloods. After being born he had slight jaundice which cleared in around a week.

This time round they have told me I have anti e antibodies and my titer is high which is 1:32. I believe 1:4 - 1:16 is not high. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. Anything above 1:16 is considered critical. I am freaking out. There are not many posts online of someone who has had these same antibodies with high titer. Usually they have quite low titer which doesn't end up cause for concern.

Thank you so much x

Hi, @zysparrow I am also 14w with my second and got told last week that I have anti-E antibodies in my bloods.

Same as you I didn’t have them with my previous pregnancy but haven’t had a blood transfusion so it must have been during the birth that some trauma caused our bloods to join.

My titer level is 1:4 at the moment so nothing more to do but monitor it. Have they told you what the next step is? I think they will monitor the baby with additional ultrasounds to check the blood flow to the brain. The antibodies can attack the babies blood which makes it thinner and therefore travel faster. So that’s what they would be checking for, a velocity above 1.5x the average.

hopefully they monitor you closely now and find nothing of concern.

I know how worrying it is and really feel for you with the level being higher.

I was surprised that the midwife I spoke to didn’t seem to really know anything about the condition. How was yours? I am waiting for her to ring this week after speaking to a blood specialist but in the meantime have got clued up on google.

Hope you are coping ok xxx

Hi @Crazywithhope ! Thank you so much for replying back to this thread. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

Your titer is very low which is what we want and I hope it stays that way for you. I hope mine goes down.

At the moment I just know they have called me in next Thursday the 2nd of May to the fetal medicine unit and I believe they are gonna do one of those specialised scans that will check for anemia. I'm freaking out but I am still trying to stay positive. I think I will get all the information I can possibly get on that appointment as the one who is handling this case is professional in this antibodies stuff. She told me she has worked in this field for 7 years and she's only seen two women that have ever needed inutero blood transfusion etc.

I really hope it doesn't come to that for me. I hope baby is not affected. I hope your baby is safe and healthy and not affected too. What is your due date? Are you planning on natural or c section? X

Hi @zysparrow definitely not alone.

yes I’ve read a couple of old threads that people have mentioned their levels have gone down through the pregnancy so that is definitely a possibility too, let’s hope for that for yours.

Thats perfect that you have been able to see a specialist so will be able to be completely informed.

Do you think there is the option to check the baby’s blood type, to confirm if they definitely are E positive? If they aren’t then there would be no worries at all.

Glad you have the scan booked for reasonably soon but I bet the waiting feels really long! Good luck for Thursday.

Ive had an appointment come through for Friday so hopefully this is with a specialist or at least someone that knows more than the previous midwife did.

All the best, try to stay as positive as you can 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi @zysparrow hows it going?
we saw the consultant today who said it is unlikely to cause any issues during pregnancy as anti-e is one of the low risk ones compared to others so feeling hopeful after that.

have you heard any more?

I realised I missed your questions. Due 20th October and hoping for a natural birth, had a water birth with my first and would be amazing to do the same again. How about you? Xx

@Crazywithhope Hi i just wanted to ask , my daughter has just been told at 12 weeks she has the e antibody in her blood from a transfusion she had last year .. I’ve been googling but I can’t seem to find out what the difference is between E or e .. would appreciate any replies .. thanks

Happyrooster · 29/06/2024 17:30

@zysparrow hi I have been reading your post and wondered how you got on at your appointment.. my daughter is 15 weeks and just been told about the e antibodies .. we are worried because we lost a baby last year at 7 weeks old , not antibody related .. thanks

Crazywithhope · 30/06/2024 10:57

Hi @Happyrooster sorry to hear this, hopefully won’t cause her any problems though. I am 24 weeks and all going well so far. When I went for my appointment at 13 weeks they said they wouldn’t test again until 28 weeks so that was reassuring that they didn’t expect anything to change too quickly.
sorry I’m not sure what the difference is between e and E, perhaps not much, all just different antibodies but behave in a similar way. Hope all goes well!

Happyrooster · 30/06/2024 15:30

@Crazywithhope thankyou so much for your reply .. I hope it’s the same for us and maybe retest at 28 weeks ..
Hope all goes well for you too x

@Crazywithhope @Happyrooster

Sorry for the delay in replying back. The hospital did a blood test to determine my baby's blood type to determine the risk. Thankfully they found that my baby's blood does not have the E antigen and therefore is considered low risk.

I am still with FMU for other reasons though as I have an abnormal placenta.

I hope all goes well for you @Crazywithhope and for your daughter @Happyrooster.

It is very scary and worrisome but my FMU midwife has told me that very rarely do things escalate with anti E antibodies. She said she has been in this line of work for 7 years and only 2 women needed further treatment like inutero transfusions etc.

Sending love and prayers ❤️

@zysparrow thankyou so much for your reply .. I’m so happy your baby didn’t carry the gene .. its so worrisome , my daughter gave birth to my grandson at 25 weeks last October , he survived 7 weeks than sadly we lost him .. we are all still trying to recover , and now she’s fallen pregnant again with a rainbow baby which we do believe has been sent to us for us all to heal , than found out about this e antigen … Thankyou again for your reply and wish you all the best with your pregnancy xx

zysparrow · 30/06/2024 20:00

Thank you so much @Happyrooster

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. That is absolutely heartbreaking. I wish your daughter and her baby the best of health and all goes well this time. Do keep me updated on this post ❤️
