Can my hour increase be stopped?

Hi. I’m currently 9 nearly 10 weeks pregnant. I work park time and my hours are due to increase in a few weeks - with this is also a band increase (NHS). I want to let work know but I’m worried that they will tell me to stay on my current hours and band, is that something they can do? I’d be in the new role about 6 months before taking maternity leave, will I be entitled to the maternity pay based on the new role?

I think maternity pay is based on your average earnings over a certain period which i believe is quite late in pregnancy. I can't see how they'd retract a promotion and hour increase because you're pregnant, surely that's illegal? Assuming you still want to do it?

In the NHS your maternity pay is calculating the 2 paychecks that fall between 17 and 25 weeks pregnant, so hopefully this includes a decent period of time on your new hours and pay, nicely timed OP!

Assuming you're staying in the same trust there would be no issues regarding your maternity pay. And no, they can't rescind a job offer because you're pregnant. Congratulations :)

If you're moving between trusts you'll need to check the policy of the one you're moving to as they differ.

if you move trusts you may not be entitled to the full pay but only some of it - worth checking the policy

Hi, I’m staying in the same trust and team. Just qualifying and so moving from band 3 to band 5 and increasing my hours, it’s been set since December time. I just wasn’t sure if they could say I need to stay in my current role and hours now that I’ll be taking maternity leave

No they can't say that, that would be pregnancy discrimination which is illegal.

Bells3032 · 19/04/2024 13:28

they wouldn't be able to tell you know to an increase in pay/responsibility due to your pregnancy. that would be maternity discrimination.

Your mat leave will be based on the average of the last (I think it's) 26 weeks before your mat leave

Hi Op,
I don't work in the NHS but I do work in HR and as others have said, they will still honour the pre-agreed changes to your contract ☺️
