Awful taste in mouth

Im 9+6 and it only started today but this taste in my mouth is actually horrid!!!!! I drink and eat stuff and nothing is getting rid of it.

I found an online midwife (haven’t had first appointment yet and needed to speak to someone) and asked her about it and she put this??!!

’This is not a usual symptom - might be worth keeping a food diary to see if there is any correlation with what you are eating or drinking. You can get a metallic taste if you become ketotic - in other words if your body is using its stored energy. This can happen in the first trimester if you feel nauseaous and are not eating as much’

I have seen it is a really common symptom and now I’m just worried???

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I thought it was a really common symptom - it's often metallic, and is called dysgeusia

It's hormone driven, so there isn't really anything that can be done about it - it passes of mysteriously in its own time.

I had it, and about the only thing you can do about it is find foods that don't now taste disgusting. It's not quite the same as a food craving, but it can end up with much the same outcome - I had a few weeks of eating loads of cheese and onion crisps because they reliably overcame the weirdness

What does it taste like? If it’s metallic, it’s a common symptom. If it’s an overly sweet taste, you might want to ask your midwife for a gestational diabetes test because I had that with GD.

its so hard to describe, its not a sweet taste at all!!!😂 I wouldn’t say it’s metallic either .. I saw something online describe it as a ‘brown’ taste😂 kinda chemically. Really bizarre!

I wouldn’t say it’s metallic either. Kinda like what nail varnish smells like!

That sounds like ketones, as the midwife said.

I think you should see your GP regardless @Sliiim. Get it checked out and eliminate diabetes etc!

Completely normal I had the same until recently. The taste for me was like a gone off sour taste was awful! It's stopped now at 17 weeks along with my all day nausea. I was chewing chewing gum all day long and it helped massively.
