High risk for preeclampsia

I’ve just been told that I’m at high risk of preeclampsia and blot clotting disorders, I’m 18+3. I’ve been told to take 150mg aspirin daily.

The appointment left me rather scared because it was rushed and I didn’t get much explanation other than that they consider multiple facts when determining the risk, and that they will monitor me more regularly. They also said that I should get a home blood pressure machine.

Does anyone have experience with this situation? Are there any other tests or anything I can do to get more clarity about it all?

Please try not to worry, I know it doesn't help when the appointment is rushed as well!
Ask your midwife if they are able to give you a blood pressure monitor or if they can give you something in writing so you can ask the GP for one.
Apart from the blood pressure machine I don't believe there are any other tests you can do yourself.
I had preeclampsia but it started as high blood pressure with no protein in urine until around 36 weeks. When it was just my BP they put me on meds and use to check me every 10 days. Once it was preeclampsia the plan was to test every week but my waters broke just before 38 weeks. Due to the preeclampsia it meant I had to be on the delivery ward within 24 hours. I had to be induced in the end and that was done within the 24 hours.

Please try not to panic, they will check you more and if you BP is raised they will put you on meds for it. As daft as this sounds it's probably better that they are aware you're high risk now as it means they will catch it quickly if it happens.

Thank you. The consultant also wasn’t happy that they didn’t check my risk at one of my earlier appointments. This and other problems so far don’t make me very confident in my maternity care. Thanks for the reassurance!

Try not to worry too much, I was high risk for both too, on aspirin from 12 weeks and blood thinners from 28 weeks and it was all well managed and kept under control! They'll just check your blood pressure more often if anything and you just need to be aware of symptoms :) to put it into perspective, I had zero issues with blood pressure despite having all of the risk factors, three other women I know from antenatal/ generally who were the picture of health, very low risk, all ended up hospitalised due to blood pressure/ pre eclampsia concerns so risk is certainly no guarantee especially if well managed, it can happen to anyone, try not to dwell on it and enjoy your pregnancy 🩵
