Hi,
I am 39+4 weeks pregnant with my first baby.
Yesterday I noticed that I had been getting quite a slimy discharge throughout the day which I put down to losing my mucous plug, as the evening progressed I noticed I was getting quite a wet patch in my pants, I changed a couple of times but then it seemed to go through to my jogging bottoms as well.
I called the hospital who advised me to head in, some tests were ran and she looked to see if she could see a hole or if my waters had broken, which she couldnt so she sent me back home.
Today though I have had the same sort of trickling on and off all day, it started being quite a pinky colour and I now notice that it smells quite strongly of semen.
My braxton hicks are also getting stronger and I feel a bit of a period pain with them.
I also have a upset tummy but not sure if this is due to the stress yesterday.
I just wanted some advice as I dont want to call the midwife/hospital again if it is nothing to worry about.
She told me as I left to call if I start feeling unwell or really soaking pads but I am not at the moment.
I am confused- should I sit tight and see if anything else happens or call someone again in case the midwife was wrong?

'Period pain' sounds exactly like my early labour. If it is labour then it is the early stage so no need to worry yet.
Beast wishes.

Sounds like it could be the start of labour. I would give your midwife a ring.

best.

If it is labour you will certainly know about it when it gets going.

Definitely call the hospital - it is probably the start of labour, and if it is not then you should at least have the symptoms checked out.

Do not let yourself feel like you are being paranoid. Even if you are wrong it is always better to err on the side of caution. Having a baby is a big deal. Normal in the sense that women do it every day, but a very big deal for every individual woman as it is not something we actually do everyday!

Best wishes!!!

Rest! If it is the beginning of labour, you will want some energy for when it kicks in proper (and yes, you WILL know you are in labour then!). But contact hospital if you are worried.

Best of luck! (Sorry, pressed send too early, duh...)

Rest. Eat, drink and pee!

Sounds like very early labour. Watch a comedy or sort your photo album. Try not to concentrate on it too much just yet.

Be sure to rest where you can as you'll need the energy later.

Good luck.

Thanks for your responses, do you know roughly how long this can go on for before proper labour kicks in?
Can it still be a week or so yet?

Doesn't sound like it will be a week or so - more like a day or so.

Good luck

oops!!!

How long is a piece of string? It's not an easy answer. It may go on for several days, it may happen tonight. The key is to not become focussed on it. Relax and allow your body to open. Don't worry as to when it might be.

I'll keep an eye out for your birth announcement.
