Holiday Ideas?

I'm 15 pg with dc 1. DH and I are trying to book a holiday. I was thinking that sometime around 25 weeks might be good. But the problem is what to do and where to go.

We are both very active and have never been on a holiday that didn't involve bikes or skis! I'm really not up to even the gentlest of cycling at the moment. We're not very towny, and can think of nothing worse than lying on a beach.

I've been quite poorly and because of the problems I've had, I'd quite like to stay in the UK, but have spent so much time at home recently, I'd quite like to do something other than renting a cottage and putting my feet up.

Any ideas?

Country house hotel with spa, good food and variety of country walks nearby?

Book somewhere in the north of England and buy a railrover train ticket. Lots of nice places to visit for walking, or just interesting train lines to travel if you fancy getting out and about but can't face doing much more than sitting around.

That is end May/early june
Why not the pyrenees (france/spain mountains and Atlantic shore) or alps ( Italy & Swiss lakes) for gentle walks and scenic drives?

How about Belgium? my DH and I love to go for long weekends as quick, easy (assuming you are near London) and cheap to get to by eurostar. If you buy a eurostar ticket you can use it to any destination in Belgium and the trains are excellent and almost everyone speaks english and more than happy to help if you get lost. I recommend Antwerp, Bruges or Ghent all beautiful old towns with canals, loads of great restaurants and nice walks if you are up to it, lots of cafes to sit down in if not. Antwerp is a particular fave as has lots of interesting museums, great bars (mostly non smoking) and plenty of chocolate shops. All of Belgium is very bike friendly if you were feeling up to that too as very flat. have a great trip whatever you decide to do
