Hi guys
Im currently 22 weeks pregnant and stressed. I was under the impression that the nhs maternity pay was calculated by the 8 weeks you work between 17-25 weeks. I thought this would include enhanced payments for nights, weekends and so on. As well as London weighting. My matron today said she doesn’t think it works like that and she believes it’s basic pay. This isn’t what I’ve read but now I’m stressing thinking I will be so broke (lol crying).

does anyone work for HR or taken nhs mat and know about this?

Your matron is wrong. It’s based on your average earnings in the qualifying weeks.

Only going from experience with NHS Scotland here, but my maternity pay was calculated from week 25 I believe, can’t remember how many weeks for though. It definitely isn’t basic pay and any enhancements are counted, don’t worry!

I’ve known some pregnant nhs friends who have picked up a fair bit of overtime in their qualifying period to bump their entitlement so I would assume it does include them not just basic x

Your matron is wrong. Do not let her do the calculations!!

Also, you may not be offered it (in my experience you rarely are) but you can ask for your mat payments to be aggregated. So instead of full pay for 6/52 & then the drop & then the stat mat, you have it all averaged out over 9mth. Much easier to budget IMO. But like I said, you are unlikely to be offered it - they must do it if you ask though.

It's all your earnings paid in the qualifying weeks (NIable pay). I got my annual bonus in the qualifying weeks so got that paid mostly again, that was nice :)
