Hi,
I just realised I’ll be 35+5 on our return flight from Greece in September, booked before I was pregnant. I know they say you can fly up until end of 35th week.. desperately hoping they mean before the 36th week? Please can anyone let me know if they’ve had this before.
Thanks!

Think of birthdays.
At the end of your first year, you reach your first birthday
At the end of your 35th week of pregnancy, you hit 35 weeks.
I think you need to change the dates of your holiday.

You may still be able to fly after 35 weeks but you will need to be signed off by GP or midwife if it cannot be changed at all. They will give you a written letter or a fit to fly document if you must go then.
my flight home from Greece last year at the end of August was absolutely horrible for turbulence and storms I Was sweating, stressed the whole time and terrified. Just think about it thoroughly first.

If you go ahead, I'd really consider the possibility of you giving birth whilst away.

Thanks all, yes I thought that was the case, just hoping against hope as it’s non refundable and was the last time we would be able to go off peak before my son starts school next year.
I guess I’ll ask my doctor and may have to take the hit 😞 thanks again for replying.

If it's non refundable would they let you move it to say June?

I’ll find out this evening but pretty sure not 😞

You'll need to take a very close look at what would be covered by your travel insurance. If the baby came early would they cover the birth? Out of pocket and then reimbursed? Do you have a card with that big a limit? If the baby needed NICU would they cover a hotel room for you for weeks? Most won't. This is exactly how you end up on the cover of the daily mail. I really wouldn't!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 12/04/2024 17:12

If you have travel insurance which was taken out when you booked the holiday and before you knew you were pregnant you should be covered. Far cheaper for an insurer to pay you for the holiday than medical care if it all goes skew wiff.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 12/04/2024 17:15

Personally I wouldn't entertain the idea of Greece in August at 35 weeks. You will melt.
Unfortunately a personal friend had early labour in the islands and did not get the level of care she needed and they lost the baby at 28 weeks. They had a horrific time and still question themselves with what ifs nearly ten years later.

I'm a GP and the most you will get is a factual letter with dates etc. We don't say 'fit to fly' as that has huge legal implications.

BC2603 · 12/04/2024 18:39

My mum and dad were due to be away very close to my EDD (booked before I was PG) and they have been able to move the holiday to next year for a small fee. Worth an ask

TeaKitten · 12/04/2024 18:42

Greece in September at 35 weeks pregnant sounds miserable anyway. But it can’t hurt to ask about moving the date.
