Absent End Diastolic Flow & Premature Delivery

Hello,

Looking for a little bit of hope this evening as things are a bit bleak. I’m 25 weeks pregnant with my own little miracle baby but at 20 weeks we were diagnosed as IUgR with the cause most likely placental insufficiency. Fast forward 5 weeks, I’m now in hospital under observation and started steroids this evening as with absent flow there is a high chance of baby coming early.

We were over 500 grams at our 24 week scan so baby is at viability but its very risky delivering at this term. I’m just wondering if anyone has been in the same position and can share their story … how long were you able to hold on before baby was born? Did the steroids make any difference? Did anything help you cope with the anxiety? X

Sorry you're going through this OP, have you been able to visit the NICU and talk to some neonatal nurses and doctors?
Some more information about what's to come might help with some of your anxieties.
Great that you've got from 24 to 25 weeks and the steroids will be helping to prepare little one's lungs.
Have you a supportive partner with you?

Hello, thanks for coming back to me.

The NICU doctors are visiting us today and taking us to see the unit … I think you are right in that knowing the care plan might help.

My partner is great but he seems so positive that everything will turn out fine and I will hold on til atleast 28 weeks. I don’t know if he is just trying to hold it together for me but I’m not getting that sense of optimism from the doctors x

I think you're right to prepare for delivery before 28 weeks if you've been given steroids and are talking to neonatal doctors, in my experience that usually happens less than a week before delivery.
Will this be your first baby? Do you have supportive family nearby? Will your partner get extra leave from work if you deliver very prematurely?

I’m really hoping I can hold out more than a week. Scan today wasn’t great news as blood flow through the cord was intermittent absent already. However, the Ductus Venosus was very good, baby is active, good heart rate, amniotic fluid levels are normal, he seems to be growing, so looks like he is coping at this time … I don’t think my own consultant would have started the steroids yet.

im really hoping to eek it out 1-2 weeks rather than a few days … I know I will never get to 30 weeks but just want him a bit further on. Don’t know if im totally deluded in thinking that might be possible x
