Group b strep in first trimester

Hi everyone, just looking for some reassurance. After going back and forth from the doctors with what I thought was thrush I’ve tested positive for group b strep. I have quite bad anxiety and googling has me so worried, particularly reading that it can (although rarely) affect baby during pregnancy. Has anyone else tested positive in the first trimester and did it go away? Thank you

Group b strep can indeed come and go. Do make your midwife aware though, as they may want to put you on antibiotics when you go into labour

I had this, tested positive in my first pregnancy & they automatically treated me for it when I had my 2nd. Being aware of it is so much better than not because they can treat you accordingly. I had antibiotics when I was being induced & again when I was waiting for my c section with my 2nd and then they monitored both babies for 24 hrs. You are in the best position now because they are aware of it for when you go in to have your baby. X

I had it (well, still do i guess) all throughout my pregnancy and labour.

Honestly, don't panic - its very very common. All it means is that you will have to have antibitiocs via drip during your labour.

Its nothing to panic about, my daughter is 18 months old now and completely thriving

Definitely agree with this. My son is 16 & daughter is 12 now. No issues whatsoever xx

I think regardless of trimester, if you’ve previously tested positive then you will be classed as having it at time of birth.

it’s something that you either carry or you don’t, and it goes through stages of being active and laying dormant.

I tested positive with my 2nd child and will subsequently be treated as positive with my current baby.

it’s not a big deal, you get given antibiotics in labour and if baby if born less than 4 hours of receiving this you will have to stay in for 24hrs so baby can be checked over regularly.

Don’t worry too much, the dangers of strep b are from you not being aware you have it and it being passed to baby, as it’s not routinely tested for on NHS. If you know you are carrying it then precautions are taken and you and baby will be safe x
