Baby measuring small

Hello- and apologies for the long message.

im currently 30+1 according to NHS dates. I monitored my ovulation and the days we did the deed and my dates are 29+4.
Ive been having minimal movements my entire pregnancy and have been having growth scans.

the scan I had yesterday showed that the femur length had gone from being on the 55th centile and is now measuring at the 17th.. so therefore they’ve become very concerned and baby is now in the 9th centile for estimated weight…

they have said I’ve got extra fluid and are now monitoring that as well as having another GD test before they look any further into what might be causing this.

does anyone have any advice? Could baby just be small because the dates are out? Would this be a reason that the measurements have slowed?

worrying out of my head and could really do with other peoples experiences.

thank you

x

The dates aren’t that much different so unlikely to be that. There’s lots of reasons it could be, however baby could just be small. If they haven’t found any other problems then it’s likely they’ll just continue to scan every couple of weeks to track the growth and make sure the placentas working correctly, and they may push for you to be induced early if baby continues to be small. I had two small babies, got monitored but ultimately nothing was wrong they were just small babies.

Take a deep breath. Your doctor's are keeping you under observation, which is good. I had intrauterine growth restriction with my first because I had preeclampsia. It resulted in an early birth at 30 weeks ultimately because he dropped down to the 1st percentile. The good news here is, they aren't so small that the doctors are wanting to deliver early yet. And the other good news is, you are already 30 weeks, which is actually very good in the preemie world. The doctors will monitor you and make sure you stay pregnant as long as possible and there will be great care for the baby if they do end up coming early. Try to relax. You are your baby are going to be fine.

@Lsg95 hi my first 3 baby's where born small and early was induced all 3 times due
To growth. Started having growth scans at 28 weeks then at 32 weeks then again at 34 but at 34 weeks baby's where same size as the scan two weeks before so they induced. My smallest was 3 pound and biggest 5 pound all healthy now and taller than me !!! Fingers crossed for you these baby's are resilient xx

Thank you so much everyone. It’s really appreciated. Just to update, PI was high between baby and placenta as well as growth slowing down.. more growth scans, more checks for bloody flow and hopefully we can make it to 37 weeks. If the growth stays the same we will be giving birth sooner :( fingers crossed this little one keeps growing growing growing xx
