Hi all,

I'm just hoping for some reassurance to be go honest. Before today my discharge has been creamy and white the entire pregnancy, but today it has been colourless and watery, not drying white on my underwear.

I did call the maternity assessment centre and they had me in and listened to baby's heartbeat and took a look at my cervix/took a swab which they said would be back in 48 hours and they didn't seem too worried, but before the swab she said my waters could have broken and now I'm just not convinced that everything is actually okay and I'm so worried.

Is it normal for discharge to be clear and watery? I'm not getting a huge amount of it or anything. Just so anxious.

Hey hun, I’m currently 25w with twins and I started to experience watery discharge since 16w. Some days worse than others but it’s been pretty constant since then. Several times I honestly thought I had a slow leaking amnio but every time I went to get checked everything seemed fine and all scans have a good fluid levels. My consultant claimed that is quite common in pregnancy and it’s a way of our bodies to keep the area clean and infection free.

even tho I should be used to it by now I’m still freaking out sometimes, so I completely sympathize🫶🏻

Hi lovely, thank you so much, so glad I'm not the only one. It's so difficult to not get into your own head about everything when you convince yourself something isn't normal xx

Just an update for anybody with the same symptoms in the future - my hospital do a service where you can speak to a midwife through Facebook so I messaged today and described my situation and my symptoms and she said it sounds completely normal and it would be so rare for waters to break this early on. Still slightly anxious but definitely feeling better that I did x

I have had quite a bit of clear watery discharge on and off since about 12 weeks. I wear a pantyliner and a couple of times have had it soak through to my knickers. Midwife wasn't concerned unless loads of it and/or smelly/coloured. I'm 29 weeks now and rarely get it anymore..all seems well so think it's probably normal but you did the right thing getting checked.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have had similar since around the same time as you, possibly earlier, I got checked too and it wasn't amniotic fluid but I have been paranoid about it still on a few occasions so you're not alone. You definitely did the right thing to get checked. I've had to wear panty liners since very early on and was told the same about the body keeping the area clear of infection. Hope all will work out well for you too x

Increased discharge in pregnancy is really common, a lot of women end up just wearing liners most days 😁
