We were told no bathing at all (except the bum area) until the cord fell off.

We were told a damp sponge everywhere other than cord, only if needed (especially if they've got a lot of hair because they have all the birth fluids in it still) but I think it's also very common not to bath them at all.

I wouldn't use cotton wool. Take some water wipes. They are absolutely fine and much less messy.
Ewan the nightmare sheep should stay at home. 😁
I was only in hospital for a few hours after the birth so didn't need a lot of stuff. I'll probably stay in for two or three days this time so we might need a bit more. I'm mostly thinking snacks and some headphones and a charger, though.
I'm abroad so don't need to bring any baby stuff to the hospital...or any sanitary towels and things like that for me, either. I'll probably take a sleepsuit to take the baby home in (although ours get clothes there and I don't really need to).

Honestly, barely used anything I packed in my hospital bag. Was only in one night but DH wasn’t allowed to stay anyway so anything I didn’t have he could’ve brought the next day anyway.

Main things are:
nappies
water wipes
changing mat (can buy some disposal change mats for ease at the hospital)
vests- 2-3 in newborn AND up to one month size (mine skipped newborn)
sleep suits as per vests above
a hat (that you will never put on him or her ever again most likely)
formula starter pack with disposable teats
cellular blanket

What I would recommend is putting a nappy, vest, sleep suit and hat in a separate pocket/plastic bag that DH knows where to find. This is just in case you should end up having to have a EMCS so dad has everything he needs if he finds himself having to take baby whilst you are in theatre. I’m sure this won’t happen, but it’s just something less to worry about in an emergency situation.

As someone else said, I’d leave the pacifiers. Very new babies mostly just want to sleep and be held when not feeding, and you’ll be more than happy to facilitate this in that lovely, cosy time with baby anyway.

As I said, keep in mind that DH/visitors can always bring more things back so keep it to necessities.
