Just discovered this great website and thought there may be some wise people who have experienced this and successfully kicked it

I seem to have had it on and off all the way through and keen to get rid of it once and for all.. Canestan cream/pessaries don't really seem to do the trick....anyone heard of anything else???

Tks

Poor you - miserable!
If nothing else works you can change your diet to cut out sugar and yeast (which is fiddly but working for me) try this website: candidadiet.com
But do get proper nutritional advice if pg!

I had terrible thrush and went to my Doctor who prescribed 4 pills, 1 a week, can't remember what they were called but crikey, even after the 1st pill the difference was incredible. Pregnant with number 2 now and thrush is rearing its ugly head again so will go back to quacks as soon as baby is born to knock it all on the head. Good luck!

You have all my sympathy - thrush is really miserable and all the sheet-changing and towel-washing can really get you down. All the advice on here is good - also, and this may sound a bit strange - I used to put an eye-mask on my bits to cool them down if I had some time. It doesn't cure anything, but it does make it a bit more bearable. Didn't put the eye-mask in the fridge, though, just running it under the cold tap was enough.

Acidophillus capsules from health food shop.

Poor you. My thrush at 16 weeks was caused my antibiotics to treat UTI but had such a bad effect it caused bleeding irritation to my cervix. I was so worried the bleeding was due to MC that I rushed to the labour ward. They were wonderful and diagnosed thrush and gave me 1% clotrimazole pessary and cream by Pliva - okay for pregnancy - and it cleared up (never to return so far at 30 weeks) after two days. Go ask your midwife/doctor/consultant.

cuttin out yeast works
this may sound horrible but puttin natural yoghurt on the sore part .....
really works it cools it down and soothes
you have to alter your diet also if not takin any pills from doctor
i have GD and get thrush virtually all the time, dont use soap, bubble bath etc.....
if you need any more natural info please ask
i know how irritating this can be......

hannahjb · 30/03/2008 14:10

disneystar - if you don't use soap what do you use or is just water enough? doesn't it, you know, smell?

Buckets · 30/03/2008 20:17

Basics just in case:
Wipe front to back
Salt and/or tea tree oil in the bath (or a swim in the sea if you're hard enough!)
Cotton pants (not thongs)
Treat your partner with cream and salt/tea tree oil - you could just be passing it back and forth to each other.
No soap down there, bathing/showering with water is quite sufficient, even with the excess goo of pregnancy LOL. But do wash any flannels for that area regularly.

You can buy the anti-thrush pill over the counter, works great but is expensive.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/03/2008 20:20

Change all your linen regularly and wash them as hot as you dare.
Cut out as much yeast and refined sugar as you can.
Put lavender oil in your bath.
Put a drop of lavender oil on a panty liner, and wear at all times!

I hope you get rid of it, it really is miserable isn't it?

Buckets · 30/03/2008 20:21

I swear the concept of smelly fanjos is all advertising hype for products. Fanjos are supposed to smell! Even during your period it would take ages for any smells to become noticeable to others, by which time you would have changed it - things like scented sanpads and femfresh are gimmicks that do nothing but push women further away from their own bodies.

Buckets · 30/03/2008 20:21

Rant over LOL

nobodysfool · 30/03/2008 20:27

Natural yoghurt on a tampon works a treat.

springerspaniel · 30/03/2008 20:35

Had recurrent thrush and constant indigestion last time. Unfortunately the same miserable thing worked for both - I had to eat like I was on bl**dy weight watchers - lots of water, fruit and veg, low fat, low sugar, etc. Healthy diet seemed to help. Worse luck!

disneystar · 30/03/2008 22:39

nobodysfool yes i agree yoghurt on tampon excellent very cooling and the relief is a blessin to all that itching.

You can get bottles of soap free wash stuff including a canestan one from the chemist for what they refer to as the 'intimate feminine area'. I use that in the shower and even when I got thrush at 17 weeks it really helped avoid the external itching. The thrush cleared up with a pessary prescribed by GP.
