Low lying posterior placenta

Hey!

I know there's lots of posts on here about low lying placenta and how they likely move etc but my midwife mentioned that they are less likely to move if they are posterior.

Just wanted to know if anyone had experience of a posterior low lying placenta that moved up/when?

For info, mine was around 10mm away from opening at scans both at 16 and 21 weeks. I'm also absolutely fine if it ends up going that way - just more curious and a couple of studies seem to suggest they are less likely to move if they're at the back and low.

Got to go back around 23 weeks as baby was a pain and couldn't get a couple of measurements for 20 week scan so will be interesting to see if already some shift.

Thanks! x

I’m in the same boat -getting scan next week at 32 weeks to find out if it’s moved - apparently they do move in 90% of cases

My posterior low lying placenta didn’t move up twice but as the previous poster said 90% of cases do so I’d really be hopeful for you that it will.

@Stelladaisy @Shivvyc5

Thanks both for your replies! I'm honestly fine either way for myself, had emergency section last time so have made my leave with elective if needs be.

I was more curious as have heard anecdotally and read in a couple of studies (I'm that kinda person...) that posterior have a much lower chance of moving up so just wandered if any real life stories of them staying/moving and what it meant for you.

Thanks again! xx

I felt I knew a lot about praevia but you learn something new everyday- posterior less likely to move. In my case I never bled with my first and had a healthy baby girl full term. On my second I bled from 28 weeks (7 small bleeds) and required hospitalization. He was born perfect at 37 weeks.
I still feel the odds are in your favor for it to move up though 😊 sending best wishes xx

I had this. It did move but just enough, I had a last scan around 30 something weeks and it had moved slightly. I had been prepped for c section's, was on strict bed rest, so no lifting etc. And was monitored closely after birth due to increase risk of bleeding.

Mine moved away at 36 weeks pregnant 🤍

My posterior placenta has moved by 6cm at 32 weeks ! Was worried it wouldn’t shift but glad to hear it has.
