16 days dpo, faint positive lines, worried

Hi everyone

I use Natural Cycles to track my dates (not temperature). I used Clearblue advanced monitor to track ovulation to day 19.

I then had brown discharge / spotting on day 9/10 dpo - I usually have this two days before my period comes in full flow. But 12 dpo my period didn’t arrive so I did Boots early test which had a faint positive line.

So I’ve tested using a Clearblue early test day 13/14/15 and had faint lines but were visible. But ive done Boots early test this morning 16 dpo and it’s so faint I’m worried.

We’ve been trying for four months so I’m worried I’m about to have a chemical pregnancy.

I’ve had sore boobs and cramping for about a week now. But had no bleeding at all yet.

It’s something I don’t know much about so looking for positive / negative experiences. Also, I live in England so wondering what my healthcare choices are at this point - can hospital test this early?

My app won’t let me upload the pics weirdly so will try and post shortly.

Thank you

Pics here: the Clearblue was 15 dpo and Boots was today 16 dpo. Both using first urine. Thank you

Unfortunatly at 16dpo you cant actually do anything medically.
The difference in those tests are ones pink dye ones blue. The clearblue are meant to he horrible to use, its what uve found when ive been reading on MN, people do tend to get more evap lines (not saying yours is an evap line) your HCG levels take around 48 - 72 hours to rise. Id test again using a pink dye test in a couple of days using boots test not clear blue.
As far as im aware with chemical pregnancies, the nhs cant do anything other than check your HCG levels through bloodtests and theyre days apart.
Private scan places cant do anything and wont scan you until your atleast 7 weeks pregnant, its unfortunately something you have to wait out. Im sorry OP.
there will be people out there who will tell you that they had the exact same testing experience and have an x month old baby or x year old child or be x amount of weeks pregnant right now. Good luck OP X

As per pp, there isn't anything a healthcare professional can do. Best to just wait a few days and test again. You may have just ovulated later than you thought, or some people do just have lower levels of HCG. I do think all these early tests have a lot to answer for - historically women would never have known about 'chemical pregnancies' and were probably all the better for it. They are sadly a perfectly natural occurrence and if that is what happens, it doesn't have any bearing on your chances of success in the future. Good luck.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 05/04/2024 19:14

There’s nothing you can do but wait a few more days really. If it is chemical, there’s nothing a hospital can do. All they do for later miscarriage is scan, but there’s no way to stop it. It’s the body’s way of dealing with a pregnancy that wouldn’t be viable.
4 months of trying is really nothing to worry about.

Thank you I didn't realise that about the blue tests - has it been proven somewhere / known what the issue is? I'll bear it in mind for future, but on months where I haven't been pregnant there's been no line at all.
Thanks for the well wishes, I'll hold tight and see what happens. All very alien to me right now!

Just to confirm for anyone else reading this - brown/pink discharge begun on 17 dpo then heavy bleeding on 18 dpo, so I am presuming this is a chemical pregnancy. Appreciate it's my body's way of protecting itself, but disheartening and very hard all the same. Best wishes to anyone else going through this.

@gardenlady1 so sorry to hear that - just because it's so early it is still a loss so I hope you're doing ok. I had a CP last September and my ovulation came at usual time following my bleed (as if it had been a period) so hopefully will be similar for you too. The positive from this is that at least you know the 'sperm meeting egg' part works - that's no small thing! Hopefully next time it will be a sticky bean for you. 🙏🏼🌈💕

Thanks so much I needed to hear that. I was quite shocked at the blood loss actually, a great deal of pain and clotting (sorry for tmi) but over fairly quickly.

I started my Clearblue advanced monitor cycle today so will hopefully have normal ovulation cycle and try again. Hope you're doing okay on your journey. What a rollercoaster

Aw best of luck! I'm currently 21+6 after 3 losses last year (the CP came a few months after a MMC at 11+4 and just before another loss at 7wks!) - was a crap year but just goes to show, you never know how and when things will turn around. I did fall pregnant again straight after the CP and I think lots do and don't have further losses - I was certainly one of the unlucky ones. I have every confidence that things will be looking up for you within a few months. 💗

allgoodthings84 · 07/04/2024 23:27

I’m so sorry. CP’s are horrible and just because it’s early doesn’t mean it’s not hard to go through. I had a loss at 6 weeks October 2022 (cycle 4) then got pregnant again the cycle after and again had a loss at 6 weeks and then got pregnant again the cycle after that (cycle 6) and this baby stuck and she’s now 7 months old. A chemical pregnancy doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you and that you won’t have your baby, even multiple CP’s. It’s just that pregnancy wasn’t viable. I spent many nights in those weeks thinking there was something wrong so I know it’s not easy but stay positive.

I hope you get your rainbow baby soon OP 💕

Congrats that's lovely, sorry to hear what you went through to get there, but it's reassuring to hear light at end of the tunnel. Good luck with everything and thanks so much again

Just for anyone reading this - I actually got immediately pregnant in the weeks after my CP bleed (but ovulation didn't track, was weird!) and I'm now 8 weeks pregnant. Had a scan yesterday and everything is fine so we are holding out hope for 12 weeks at end of the month. Xx
