Pregnancy exercise plans

Hi all

I have been considering Bumps and Burpees or Midwife Pip's exercise plans for pregnancy. Has anyone tried them or got any other suggestions?

I haven't wanted to risk going to my usual kettlebells class since I found out I was pregnant as it's very core based and I just didn't want to risk anything after a previous pregnancy loss.

I'm starting to feel little pains in my lower back and coccyx (hurt it almost 20 years ago!). I know I want to be strong for pregnancy, birth and recovery never mind lifting a baby in a car seat etc!

I haven’t seen any classes like that near me - I’ve kept going to my usual yoga, just told the teacher and made a few adjustments. And I’ve kept swimming, that might help your back pain? There’s some good workouts on YouTube as well

I never bought anything pregnancy branded.

But I did tell instructors and they told me what adaptions to make (and from when - lots you can continue as normal in first trimester, as your centre of gravity won't have changed as baby is still encased within pelvic bowl and your ligaments are very unlikely to have begun hormone-induced softening).

And as bump grew, they recommended other local classes. Just about everywhere will have someone offering pre-natal yoga - that and swimming might be only realistic options by the final weeks

Ahh sorry I should have said, these are online plans that you pay to access.

There is a pregnancy yoga class near me which I'm sure will be lovely as I grow but looking for something more cardio and strength building at the moment.

I got the bump and burpees book which has 12 workouts for each trimester. I like it so I imagine the online plan will be alright?

I've had this back pain too. Stretching has had the biggest impact for me. I'm nearly 14 weeks now and it's started to pass.

Tried out the Bumps and Burpees free workout on their website, to Beyoncé songs. It was really good!

If you have a bad back (from before my pregnancies, I also have prolapses from previous pregnancy/delivery) I highly recommend considering using a fixed car seat and a bassinet on a pram rather than lifting baby and car seat constantly. The extra weight and the bending/twisting puts a lot of strain on and already delicate back. I got a swivel car seat that stayed in the car so I could turn baby to face me rather than having to lean in and twist. By the time my DD got too big for the seat she was able to hop in and out by herself so then a non swivel one for older children was fine. Will do the same with current pregnancy/baby. Just something to think about!

@MrsScotland did you go for the paid classes in the end? Interested to know as I’m also considering!

Hi!

I went for the Bumps and Burpees second trimester programme when there was a May bank holiday 25% disc. If you use the aff disc code RACHAEL you should get 25% off too! From a girl I follow on insta called healthyhoots if you want to follow, have a look at her pregnancy highlight for lots of inspo
