Hi,

I want to send a thank you card to our huge team at labour ward who took care of us for three days.

i’d also like to some gift. Any suggestions?

Has anyone printed a photo of baby as well?

Thanks

Lovely idea. We loved getting thank you cards and they would be put up in the staff room so everyone could see them.
Gift-wise, coffee and tea were always appreciated. Biscuits are always very welcome too. Doesnt have to be posh ones, just having a biscuit to go with your tea or coffee at break was a nice treat.
One little note though. don't forget the night staff. Gifts brought in of a day were devoured by the day staff and by the time we came in there would be only the toffy pennies left or nothing. We were always forgotten about

I took in trays of cupcakes, with some labelled 'night staff' for the reasons of the above poster!

Thank you for your suggestions. May get two packages of goods one labelled for day shift and one labelled for night shift. I also don't remember all of our teams but a few people did stand out because we saw them more than one shift. Would you include specific names on the note? We had a lovely midwife in two of her shifts who also came to say hi at the Mat ward, the surgeon and anaesthetist came up too to check in. I'm getting emotional just thinking of all this beautiful care that we got this time. A night and day experience from the delivery of our first.

@MG1614 you went there in person? What a lovely gesture.

When my husband came to pick me up he had a card, box of chocolates and cakes for everyone on the ward. Was so much easier knowing it wouldn’t get lost to another ward as well!

@brocollilover thanks, good point.

@Fifi80 I had to go back in for some treatment due to PPH but it was nice to do regardless and I would try to do the same next time! I'm sure any gifts are appreciated either way :)

Fifi80 · 04/04/2024 12:21

@MG1614 Sorry to hear that. I hope everything went well. Thanks for this.

I live 5 mins from our hospital so went back with DD a card and a couple of boxes of chocolates one for day staff, one for night. They were gratefully received and the midwife that delivered DD was on shift and had a lovely cuddle with her. I wasn't expecting to go up to the ward but the reception staff directed me that way as apparently it was quiet.

Fifi80 · 04/04/2024 12:22

@cosylife that's a good point. I won't be able to know if was delivered in the right place. The hospital isn't too far. We might as well just drop in. Thank you.

@Singleandproud ohh lovely! We might just drop by too. It will be nice to show them the "result" of their efforts :)

Over 20 years ago when I had My children. We bought 2 tins of chocolates for the ward , they were really happy

reesewithoutaspoon · 04/04/2024 12:30

Hi. Yes if there was a specific member of staff that you want to send a note to, please do. She can include it as evidence for her revalidation.

Fifi80 · 04/04/2024 12:43

@reesewithoutaspoon that’s good to know. Thank you.

@brocollilover thanks, good point.

i recall mum saying that often you felt like fresh fruit on a long shift but none available at the hospital shop and the gifts were all chocolates and biscuits… so was a lovely treat when some was available

Fifi80 · 08/04/2024 05:36

@brocollilover Good to know. Thank you.

Fifi80 · 08/04/2024 16:47

@brocollilover not yet. I’m going to go there tomorrow with some fruits, sweets and a card.

We just stopped by with 2 goodie bags, one for the night shift and one for the day shift but we didn’t plan this well. The two main midwifes that took care of us the most were not on shift until the next day so they won’t get to enjoy our gift.

My advice to anyone considering doing sending a gift would be to contact the ward before to check when is the relevant stuff on shift. We should have also taken a phot to add to the card, I’m note sure they will recognise who the card is from without it.

I hope these take outs will be useful to someone. We’re glad we did it though, the midwifes on stuff were very happy to receive it and we did see our surgeon on the way out of the hospital. Anyways, thank you for the advice everyone.
