You could buy the book - hypnobirthing by mary mongan, and try to get your hands on the birth affirmation, and relaxation CDs.

It would be a long post if I went into the exercises here.

Last time I was pg I looked into it and decided the replacement back door was more important than paying for the classes. TBH, I wish we'd got a cheaper door and did the expensive classes then.
We've done the classes this time and I reckon it makes a HUGE difference to how likely it'll work for you and your partner -you only have to relax and give birth, partner has the job of keeping you relaxed, so they really need to be committed. My DH was happy to go along with it for me, but only really 'got it' after doing the class (good on you if you have a partner who can 'get it' from a book though). We learned a few different techniques in the class, and one of them helped DH with his back pain. We now look at it as an investment in our future, not just useful for labour and that makes the cost implications a little easier for us to bear.
However, should have said at the beginning that I haven't given birth yet! I'm a lot more positive about the whole birthing/baby prospect than I ever thought possible, which I can only put down to the hypnobirthing course. Oh, and whatever you do, ( CDs, classes, etc) you HAVE to practice to give your self chance to get the hang of it- something me and DH are rubbish at making time for .
Good luck with whatever you do, and the book and CDs lynette mentions are the ones I got included with the course fee. Rainbow relaxation is fab!

It is true you have to practice. And it is worth it. I was able to have a pain free home birth after 1 extremly painfully hostpital birth, and 1 panicky, fast, but less painfull (due to hypnobirthing) hospital birth. The course covered some really important points that hadn't been touched on at NCT or NHS antenatal classes. Such as the imprtance of giving birth privately, with the lights dimmed.

I have Natal hypnoptherapy and Marie Mongan's book and I would def recommened Natal. MM's book and CD is deisgned to go with classes and I didn;t find the CD very comprehensivfe. Natal is mostly CD based and has a little booklet giving the basics. I think it is easier for DHs to do the CD thing rather than the book - you can do it toghether. And it is only £16. Google Natal Hypnotherapy and you'll find the site to buy it from.

I have not given birth yet either but am feelng realy positive about the whole thing.
