Lambing shed - 20weeks pregnant

Hi all! So took my kids to the local farm lambing shed today and now I’m panicking! Apparently I shouldn’t have gone in at all. I thought that it was just touching the animals that posed a risk but after googling I’m thinking I shouldn’t have gone in at all! My children held the lambs but I didn’t and we washed hands afterwards. Anyone got any words of advice!?

I’m sure the risk is only from touching

I took my class on a school trip to a farm during lambing season when pregnant, with sheep and lambs present - the staff just advised me which animals not to touch but no one said anything about not being there at all. Baby was fine 😊 I have seen signs in other farms that just advise pregnant women not to touch.

In the kindest possible way, it’s done now. No point worrying.

it’s not an airborne issue though, so good handwashing is good. It’s also low risk
I know female farmers who lambed through pregnancy and were fine so you’d be very unlucky to get something from a little visit.
just keep an eye on everything and speak to your midwife if you have concerns

Thank you for your reassurance everyone. And yes Cronchy you’re right no point worrying! I tend to worry in pregnancy anyway! I will keep an eye out for anything amiss!

My husband is a sheep farmer so I'm very careful around lambing time. The risk is when you come into contact with the sheep fluids after they've lambed/aborted. So if you're handling dry lambs that are a few days old then you're fine.
