I'm 40 and IVF so under consultant although have never actually seen one (assume that's a good thing!) I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow I am 28 weeks, Badger notes is as informative as ever and just states Antenatal follow up. Anyone know what this entails? I don't think it's a scan? Think thats 32 weeks. Just trying to decide whether to go alone or take someone with me.

Hi. I had my 28 week appointment about 3 weeks ago. I'm 41 and seeing a consultant. My appointment was for a growth scan. On notes it did just say antenatal appointment. I've another at 32 weeks so sounds like it might be the same for you

Probably a standard appointment for checking urine and blood pressure, I also have one booked for 28 weeks

I was due to have a 28 week scan because I was on the purple pathway (higher risk) but they realised I shouldn't be so they cancelled it. I do have a 28 week appointment with my midwife which is just a check up and I think she does bloods this time too, is there a venue? My midwife appointments are at the local GP surgery but my scans are at the hospital

I'm consultant led and have growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. I have my scan then go round to the clinic, see the midwife for routine stuff (blood pressure etc) then the consultant comes in to check everything over.

Thanks it's at the hospital, I know that much but doesnt state ultrasound on the details whereas the 32 week one does. Although the Badger App has been pretty useless for info so guess they may have just missed it off.
I have a separate midwife appointment next week at my local centre so it's in addition to that.
Will just have to wait and see I guess!

I have called to check... probably should have just done that in the first place! Apparently no scan (sad times) just a review with a doctor. Get a scan at 32 weeks and 36 weeks but nothing since 20 weeks, guess I'll have to trust the process!

Have you queried why you don’t have a scan at 28 weeks? It seems unusual to not have one then if they are planning on scanning you at 32 and 36 weeks! Just incase its an admin error.

I'm in a similar situation and have had a few follow up appointments - I've largely found them completely useless, they literally just say 'everything looks fine' and then send you on your merry way to tick a box. Today for my appt post my 32 week scan I asked for it to be over the phone which was agreed - I'm really glad because the phone appt lasted 1 minute 30 seconds! May be worth a go :)

@misseckleburg thank you, I agree my last 'consultant' appointment was with a nurse who had no idea why I was there and asked me how my 12 week scan went..!I was then asked all the same questions as my booking appointment. Hopefully today will be a bit more useful!

@Tefiti3 they always said it would be 32 and 36 weeks was never mention of a 28 week scan, may just be my trust. I'd love a scan! Will ask them when I go in a bit just to double check.

Just to update as I'm now back. Had 28 week bloods done Midwife told me she was doing them at next appointment but never mind. Then saw a consultant (I think!) who literally spent 2 minutes going over what I already knew (growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks) and asked me how my 20 week fetal medicine referral went because he doesn't have it on my notes. I asked if they could check heartbeat whilst I'm there so he did that for me and that was it. Waste of time imo as he said if I have concerns to go to triage not wait for appointments.

Sorry it was a waste of your time though glad your baby is well :)
I've now had 4 appts at the hospital - all of which I've had to come out of work for - where the person who's seen me didn't really know why I was there/have anything to add.
I'm sure men wouldn't be asked to take so much time out of their day for such a tick box activity and it's seemingly a massive waste of NHS money.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
