Uk holiday 39 weeks

I want to make it clear from the outset that the only reason I’m considering this is for my 2 children.
I am pregnant with baby no 3 my other children are 4 and 2. Before finding out I was pregnant I booked a caravan holiday for august for a week with the kids. The holiday is non refundable and dates are movable at a cost of another 50% of the original holiday booking - Another £400.
The site is on the beach (no heavy walking/climbing) and there is pool facilities and everything to keep the kids entertained on site. My eldest starts school this year and I really wanted to have a nice summer holiday before he goes off to school.
The destination is less than 2 hours from where we live and the nearest hospital is 20 minutes from our caravan which is the same as my hospital at home.
I have since found out my due date is the last day of our holiday. I’ve considered paying the additional money and moving to end of July but I’ll still be 37 weeks and I had my 2 at 38 (induction) so is it just as risky? Am I foolish to think we could make it home if labour starts? Or that we may already have babe by then? I don’t know what to do for the best.
any advice would be welcomed.

What were the reasons you had to be induced at 38 weeks with your first 2? Is that likely to happen again? X

Can you move it to early July (i.e. more like a month before your due date) or are you tied to school holidays? It feels like if you move it baby will be late but if you don't move it you might be in hospital and miss it anyway - I think coming back mid holiday would be worse for your other kids? My 4 yo wouldn't like the last minute change of plan!

Also what are you planning to do if baby is already here? 2 hours is a long time in the car seat for a newborn, the advice is no longer than 30 minutes at a time!

Agree with @BeautyAndTheBump1 - why were you induced and how long were your labours?

Things can change really fast at that point in pregnancy (as im sure you know!). With DD1, i gave birth at 38w. Currently 39w pregnant with DC2 and since 36w, I've needed monitoring every 3 days and high alert to be admitted as BP very high and everyone is worried about preeclampsia. This was only picked up at my 36w appt.

Can you move it to May / June instead so you are well ahead of your due date? If you need the school holidays, could half term be an option? You say its non-refundable, but are there any medical exemptions that you could use?

I had cholestasis with both so there is a high chance of getting it every pregnancy but as we know there are no guarantees.
I am tied to school holidays as my partner is a teacher.
if baby arrives early we would have to make stops on the journey - we have done travel with the other 2 from young ages so I’m least worried about this aspect. It’s more if I go into labour whilst there would be the issue. I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a hospital away from my children. I know it’s a risk and I know there are no solid answers but just after opinions of other people who might offer some insight or experience.

My labour with my first was very quick- I gave birth on the ward without my other half. The second was 5 hours. I wasn’t kept in either time.
we already have an abroad holiday booked for the may June half term. I had booked the august one as its also my partners 30th whilst there so was killing 2 birds. I have phoned the holiday company and even with pregnancy they said I should have taken out their protection insurance and if I cancel I will lose 50% of the holiday anyway. So really my best options are risk it or pay the extra and move to an earlier week. I worked with both the other 2 all the way up to my induction date and other than the cholestasis had no real issues.

So you've not got to 39 weeks before, have had a condition which can recur and may warrant an induction again, have had relatively quick labours and would be 2 hours from the hospital that has access to your bloods/group & save etc? Sounds a bit braver than I'd be!
(also, if you did make it that far and had to go into hospital, who'd be looking after your children/are you happy to deliver without your partner?)

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 02/04/2024 13:45

Do you not have travel insurance? That would cover it. I have mine through my union and it would cover this.

mrssunshinexxx · 02/04/2024 13:47

Try selling the holiday

Flopsy145 · 02/04/2024 14:14

I would look at moving it to the very end of August (if not already)/ early September before school starts. Or potentially the may half term.
But if not, how would you feel with a potential home birth in the place you're staying as that could be a possibility if it all happens a bit earlier and much quicker than intended?

osed · 02/04/2024 15:30

My partner would have to look after them. I mean it’s not ideal but I’ve done it before. I love the idea of a home birth but it’s risky if there are complications.
I’m I think looking at the majority of replies people think it’s a bad idea. So i will have to look into moving to end of July when I’ll be 36/37 weeks.

Would you feel comfortable taking a 1 week old baby if you go at 3£ weeks? If yes then move it to 36-37 weeks, if no just cancel.
