Hi all, currently very early on in my pregnancy (6 weeks) and I am struggling with the nausea and the continuous exhaustion. How are / have you dealt with this? I am so afraid of the nausea getting worse, I feel that I can't get on with my day normally and it's really getting me down. I knew before getting pregnant that nausea was a thing, but the fatigue is absolutely crazy! Would really appreciate any advice 💖

Hi I'm currently 11 weeks and have been dealing with extremely fatigue since the early days of my pregnancy. I've learnt to just rest when it was possible too and I ended up having to let work know I was pregnant early on as I just couldn't get out of bed some days! Work were very understanding thankfully.
The fatigue and nausea are starting to get better so it won't last forever, which my midwife also ensured to me as I couldn't believe it was possible to sleep so much !

In terms of nausea I was advised to eat little and often. I found very bland foods wouldn't make me sick such as toast or plain tomato pasta ! I also found eating fruits helped with nausea such as raspberries, strawberries and pears. Orange juice and sometimes sugar free fizzy drinks helped with the nausea too

Hope you start to feel some relief soon !

First of all, congratulations!!! The fatigue is the worst, all I can suggest is nap where possible, even a 20min power nap works wonders. For the nausea ginger & chamomile tea sipped throughout the day keeps the tummy settled. It will pass and you'll soon be out of the first trimester and hopefully having the second trimester glow and energy.

I don't think there's anything you can do I am afraid. Ask for nausea medication, it helps me to get through the days. And just give in to the exhaustion. Your body is doing a lot right now, it needs all the energy. Nap when you can. I took naps on my lunch breaks when working from home and on most days I would fall asleep on the sofa at 7pm. I didn't do any chores for like a month. Explain to your partner that he will need to step in. It will get better and by week 10 or so you will start getting more energy. I am week 13 and still fall asleep around 8:30pm every day.... I think around week 6-7 I was beginning to get quite depressed too, because I felt totally useless. It will improve, I promise, you will just have to take it easy for the next few weeks.

Yes, the first trimester was horrible for me too - So much nausea and vomiting and sleeping. I was so grumpy and tired. This lasted for 18 weeks. Now I am 30 weeks and hoping it wont come back.

The only thing that helped was discovering what the triggers were for my nausea and avoiding them (for me, dairy products were triggers for the first 12 weeks - so used oat milk, and eating more than a tiny meal in the evening).

I would get from peckish to hungry-sick in 30 seconds, so I had to keep nibbling on boring things that didn’t make me sick to keep from being empty (potatoes and bananas I found were good, crackers didn’t work), or things that I was craving (sea weed, marmite).

I was also more nauseous in the evening, which meant that I could have a normal breakfast, a small’ish lunch and I knew that I would probably throw up my evening meal, so most of my nutritious meals were in the morning/lunch.

The tiredness was bad, but I just went to bed early (8pm). I was struggling with nausea anyway so being awake was just not pleasant.

I also found the Myrtle & Maude sweets helped a little during the times I was getting really bad (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BDFJDW6B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1), they are basically mints with more B6 vitamins. I tried ginger but it just irritated my stomach.

However, this is all very individual. I hope you find what works for you! It is a real nightmare, but at least it gets better in most cases.

@Danceaholic you have my full sympathy! I am about 6-7 weeks at the moment and I have been exhausted for a couple of weeks but the nausea has really ramped up over the last few days. Yesterday I had severe nausea all day. The only time I don’t feel sick is when I’m asleep or eating, but I don’t feel like eating because I feel so sick.
Ginger beer and gingins are helping temporarily with the nausea for me. Also slowly drinking peppermint tea or squash.
I hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi all, thank you kindly for all of your comments / advice and tips! And also for taking the time to share your experiences. I'm doing my best to ride the waves but will start incorporating some of the advice you all have shared to see what works for me. At the moment I feel like I need to eat because I'm working to create a whole human but at the same time I have 0 appetite and the nausea and tiredness are just way too much. Congrats for those that are pregnant and hopefully we will be able to overcome the waves of the first trimester soon ❤️
