Spa bath (35-36 degrees) at 8 weeks, yay or nay

We’re contemplating booking an overnight stay which has a lovely spa bath, temperature is set at 35-36 degrees. I am quite sure my bath water is this temperature or hotter. Will it be safe to use it?

It’s not listed as something usable by pregnant ladies on their website but I am not sure if that is more precautionary than anything else.

There are also saunas and steam rooms which I know I am to avoid. That being said having done some research it seems saunas are thought to be ok as they’re used all throughout pregnancy in some countries.

Thoughts?

I do not have any experience with spas and saunas but 17 years ago I had a hot bath at home didn't know then wasn't meant to be in hot water when pregnant as rases body temp and I like my baths hot, I was sweating and then when got out of the water I went dizzy and fainty feeling then either the next day or few days after I ended having a MC at 6/7 weeks, so now I'm 4 weeks 4 days I'm not stepping anywhere near a bath or hot water and sticking to showers where I'm not raising my temp to much. No idea if that was the cause but scared me since.

I think there’s potentially a risk with the bacteria in the water from hot tubs etc (in addition to temperature concerns) but if yours is a bath with fresh tepid water then may be ok.. defo worth checking though, if I was unsure I wouldn’t risk it

I was told no not baths or jacuzzis /spa when preg

I followed it as took 10yrs ttc

MG1614 · 31/03/2024 22:21

I wouldn't personally. Prior to 12 weeks poses the most risk in terms of temperatures. Just sit on the edge and dip your feet in. It would probably be fine but why risk it?

TTCJJB · 31/03/2024 23:23

Yeah, I wouldn't be using it

LizzeyBenett · 01/04/2024 07:48

I havent gone near bath my whole I'm 28 weeks l wouldn't chance it .

JC89 · 01/04/2024 07:53

I wouldn't.
It would probably be fine but if I had a miscarriage (sadly not uncommon, in most cases not caused by anything the mother did) I would end up blaming myself! Not worth the risk for me.

I wouldn’t. I’ve had warm baths and been to normal swimming pools during first trimester but wouldn’t risk that heat. I’m more paranoid having had a MC last year though

I have read some truly strange responses on Mumsnet about hot tubs, once someone said it will boil your baby? 🤔 (not true)

Heat is associated with increased risk of neural tube defects, which is first trimester problems. This is associated with water 40oC or over (your body temp rising to/over 39 is the concern)

It’s not recommended to use hot tubs after that due to possible fainting, drop in blood pressure, from you getting in and out of a very hot bath/tub. The general advice is if you want to use a hot tub after this time, to sit with your chest out of the water, limit to 10 minutes at a time, and stay hydrated. I personally would use a common sense approach, but I know some people wish to avoid all together.

It's a no from me. It's partly the risk of infection which is a problem, not just the hot temperature in itself. That's why it's not like having a hot bath.

MammaTo · 02/04/2024 19:21

I wouldn’t. When I was pregnant we’d booked a glamping pod with a hot tub and once I got my legs in and felt how hot it was I got nervous about putting my belly in. I think first trimester is particularly dodgy territory too.. Gutting I know but better to be safe then sorry.
