I’m 6+3 and very queasy. It does come and go but seems worse as the day progresses. Food aversions are very very strong. Whenever I think of the last thing I ate, that sets me off. There’s nothing that doesn’t trigger it atm. Also been dry heaving and retching on a morning, no actual sickness but know that might be to come

Is there anything I can do to relieve this symptom a bit?

Heya due date buddy. I'm right here with you! Here are some things that have worked for me (some easier than others):

In the moment/at first sign of queasy moving towards nausea:
⭐Sucking on GinGin sweets
⭐Sniffing lemon juice (!?)
⭐Sour sweets
⭐Going for a walk (under duress... but it worked because I was so out of breath I couldn't be nauseous)
⭐Sipping at fizzy water
⭐Crying (!)
⭐Showering

Preventative:
⭐Eating something every 2 hours (single slice of toast does me, even if it takes me 30 mins to do it I do feel better overall)
⭐Drinking plenty. I suck at this, but it's definitely worse when I don't

Ginger

I've seen a few ads for an electronic nausea relief band - looks like a fitbit

Hey OP. I really feel for you. I am 11 weeks and the nausea is starting to subside massively, I had it badly from 6 weeks just like you, vomiting most days once but it was the constant nausea that did my head in. Things I genuinely found to help:

  • eat something small every couple of hours, I think PP mentioned this
  • don't let yourself get too hungry or too full
-avoid caffeine or other acidic food/drink -Sickness bands really, really help.
  • make sure you are as hydrated as you can be
-ginger tablets, I found some on Amazon. -Medication. I was given cyclizine first when nausea was milder, then I moved onto promethazine when it was worse which also helped me sleep at night as I was waking up feeling sick.

I think the combination of medication and adjusting my diet and eating times helped most and not getting over tired.

Don't suffer in silence! Medication really helped me and the GP was very sympathetic. I took 2 weeks off work too. Sending you lots of positive vibes xx

Pineapple, lemonade and salty snacks like pretzels/pom bears helped me. Currently 13+2 and it’s still particularly bad so I have cyclizine and Promethiazine on prescription. Don’t suffer in silence and acknowledge that if the nausea/sickness is making you feel miserable, that’s natural

A magnesium supplement and slow release ginger supplement. Inessa do a great prenatal and magnesium duo that is great. Second all the above tips too. Lots of rest, fizzy water, frequent tiny plain bites of food, no caf, being busy!

Jukeboxtardis · 30/03/2024 17:55

I went super low carb and that helped. No sugar at all. Still threw up all the time and felt like shit for the first 6 months

JadeVS72 · 30/03/2024 18:02

Don't let your blood sugar drop, eat little and often. Sniffing peppermint essential oil and sucking polos.
Apparently sniffing those alcohol wipes can combat nausea too.
Good luck!

Ginger biscuits/dry toast/ travel sickness wrist band??? Sending hugs its horrible thing

Sbishka · 30/03/2024 18:05

Sipping on peppermint or liquorice tea (don't let yourself get dehydrated, easier said than done I know, but it makes it worse)
Midwife in hospital (I had to be on a drip!) froze some grapes for me in the ward fridge, sucking on them, or just on ice, really helped.
You have my every sympathy.

Thriving30 · 30/03/2024 18:32

Nibble regularly even if you're not hungry. Plain digestive biscuits really helped for me.
Ice cold water.
Lemonade/sprite
Ice lollies
Peppermint tea.
Grapes for some reason really helped me as well

@Sparksi I really feel for you, I’ve had horrendous nausea and know how debilitating it is. I was put on cyclazine which made a big difference, there is no need to suffer through it without medication. I also wore travel sickness bands 24/7 which helped. Sipping sparkling water helped too. The main thing for me though was getting plenty rest. I was signed off work from around 10 weeks for 4 weeks and to be honest I wish I had got signed off earlier!

Nat6999 · 30/03/2024 23:53

Sea bands, I wore mine everywhere except in the shower when I would take them off, dive in have the quickest shower ever & dive out.

annlee3817 · 31/03/2024 04:55

I used travel sickness bands and lived on Jacobs high fibre cream crackers as they were slightly salty.

romdowa · 31/03/2024 05:31

Weirdly reflux medication really helped mine. Nothing else touched it
