Norovirus on top of 1st trim sickness - utterly fed up and worried about baby

The joys of having a toddler. I've been battling with nausea since 5 weeks (now 11) and in the last week had a stinking cold and now norovirus. I've been solo most of the week as husband working up north.

Am so sick of feeling rubbish, and now really worried about the effect of profuse diarrhoea & sickness on the baby. I've eaten a banana and about 10 pieces of pasta in the past 24hrs. My 12 week scan isn't for another nearly 2 weeks so just worried there could be something wrong with baby and I won't know. Also just fed up of feeling rubbish and not being able to do anything. I've been struggling through work and collapsing at the weekend.

please someone tell me it gets better, and whether there's anything I should do - we had a private scan at 8 weeks and all was well, but unlikely I'd be able to get one over this holiday weekend (plus don't want to infect people with noro)

Hi, sorry to hear you're so unwell. Just to reassure you that I had noro, AND swine flu while two months pregnant during Christmas 2010, but my son suffered no ill effects. The flu can be dangerous certainly, but I don't think noro affects the baby. The midwives told me that the baby will take what it needs from your system, just be careful to stay hydrated and drink electrolyte drinks if possible to keep your potassium levels up etc. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thank you for replying. I'm sorry you were so unwell but glad your son was fine.

Definitely trying to stay hydrated, but I was struggling with aversions even before so I can only drink certain things. I'll make up some rehydration stuff and see if that stays down x

It won't harm the baby. Try to keep hydrated, but don't worry about food and ntil you are feeling a bit better.

I had HG and was sick at least 10 times a day, even throughout the night, for 16 weeks. DS is a strapping 22 yo. No harm done.
Hope you feel better soon.
