Can red blood at 4 weeks 5 days be normal?

Hi guys. First post, first pregnancy. Very worried.

when I first found out a was pregnant, I had had bad central cramps and spotting of brown blood. Was shocked but so happy as we had been trying to conceive. Was also bloated and constipated and my breasts were sensitive.

just 5 days of bliss later, the cramps have gone, along with the constipation and breasts have eased off. Went to the toilet, and noticed light pink kind of discharge when I wiped. About 30 minutes later when I went again, it turned into bright red blood and filled the tissue paper. It stopped shortly after this. and today it’s only very small dots of brown/pink when I wipe.

I called 111 as there’s no GP service until Tuesday after the bank holiday. The lady was lovely and said it could go either way, I just have to wait and see, and then see the GP next week though said they won’t scan until 6 weeks.

has anyone had anything like this and it be ok? Or not?

I don’t have any pain, maybe a slight dull ache near the inner bony bit of my left side sometimes but I could be looking for something that’s not there…

thanks.

I'm sorry you're going through this, the start of pregnancy can be such a worrying time. They are right that this could go either way at this point and there wouldn't be anything to see on a scan just now.

I had a chemical pregnancy in 2021, a few days of heavy spotting and after the bleeding stopped I had a negative test. Do you have anymore tests? A positive isn't going to completely reassure you but a negative would give you an answer now and not have to wait longer

Hope it's all nothing to worry about, I've read many stories where there's a good outcome too!

So sorry you're having this worry.

The part of them not scanning you until 6 weeks is a lie.

Be prepared to have all your dignity go when you do see your gp and have your scan😅

I went to my gp and she wanted to check my cervix, so i had my pants down legs wide open, shaved 2 days prior so i had some stubble, then i was sent to EPAU; again pants down, stubble and i had a transvaginal scan, which is a probe inserted into your vagina for a scan.

Ive had this now 3 times, all my dignity went out of the window from the first time, but i did make the joke saying im going to start charging for the amount of times ive had my pants down😂

The nurses at EPAU are absolutely lovely and so reassuring!

You can have a scan at any time really. But it may be that you're actually measuring 2 weeks behind and could possibly be implantation bleeding and cramping which is common at an early stage.

Good luck with all of this. Its such a stressful time. Dont be disheartened if you dont see a heartbeat straight away! Its completely normal and dont usually start seeing it until week 6 - 7! X

Sorry to hear about your own story.

I panicked and did a cross clear blue test last night after I chugged lots of water - a really silly thing to do I know. I was so hydrated it showed as barely positive. This morning, I used my first pee of the day with a digital clear blue (as that’s all I had) and it shows as pregnant 2-3 weeks.

Really hoping it’s ends up being ok.

I had similar, at same stage (maybe a couple of days earlier). No other spotting before or after that I remember though. Bright red blood on toilet paper. Was terrified and had to wait week for a scan. Was told not to worry if not much to see as very early, but there was teeny heart beating away. Not so teeny now at 16! Hope the same for you.

Likemyjealouseel · 29/03/2024 16:20

It can really go either way. I had the same (repeatedly) with both successful pregnancies.

I had this but it was a hematoma. I did have to wait until week 6 to be scanned by epau because they want to check for heartbeat which is between 6-8 wks. At 6 weeks it was still too early for us to know anything. I hope everything is OK op

Crowgirl · 29/03/2024 16:48

I have had this and miscarried and had this and had a lovely baby. Sorry not particularly helpful.

I was scanned at 5 weeks and just had to come back at 6 weeks as it was too early to see. It's a horrible wait. The advice in my family was always
to read if you had to pass unbearable time. Probably also not helpful either tbf. Hope you're okay. Flowers

Yes im currently going through my 3rd miscarriage (Sorry OP, i dont want to scare you at all) as my sac is showing 9 weeks and my baby is showing 6 weeks, so unfortunately not viable, but i have a major haematoma around my gestational sac. Which was horrific to see on the scan, unfortunately people can go through a tough time before going through the most perfect time.

Hope you're doing okay OP, try not to google too much, you will inevitably scare yourself and get really worried. Wait it out, see the EPAU and go from there. Wishing you the best of luck x

YouveGotAFastCar · 29/03/2024 16:58

It was fine for me - my pregnancy that har bright read bleeding around the same time, and a bit afterwards until 13 weeks or so, is currently eating fish fingers and chasing his toddler friend around.

I hope it’s the same for you x

Bingate6 · 29/03/2024 17:00

I think it can really go either way at this stage, I had bleeding in first trimester and my EPAU wouldn’t scan until 6 weeks so I did a few pregnancy tests which still showed positive. I’m 37 weeks now. The 2-3 weeks would be encouraging to me, just bear in mind if it is a miscarriage the HCG can take a while to drop. Hope it works out for you.

i am so so sorry to hear this. I hope you’re looking after yourself.

The bleeding I have had did not get better. It stopped and then started again. I called 111, due to pain more on one side and the blooding starting again. A heavy spotting. A&E did a blood test and asked me to come back in 48H for another to check for miscarriage.

WARNING FOR GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION———-

Got home and the floodgates opened. So much blood just pouring out when I go to the toilet and with lots of clots. Cramps pretty intense.

I feel traumatised, empty and just so so sad. Like I don’t know how like could possibly carry on.

I wish a&e or someone would have warned me how bad this could get. I have now asked my husband to come with me when I need to wee/change my pad. So I don’t feel so alone at the sight.

thanks for all the replies. It gave me hope for at least a little while.

Hey lovely, I’m so so sorry. This was me back in December. The pain and the whole process was like you say traumatising. AandE didn’t really care too much and the doctor I saw couldn’t care less. I did see the midwife the next day and they did a scan to confirm my miscarriage
to say I was in pieces is an understatement.
i felt so numb hearing the news but also so sad there was no heartbeat.
You are not warned about the physical pain.
my husband also ended up sitting with me every time I went to the toilet.

if I were you
> get in in contact with the midwife team and be asked to be seen and get a scan
> I got my husband to do all the calling as I didn’t want to talk
> get the GP to sign you off for a few weeks (the pain can be horrendous)
> take iron supplements
> expect heavy bleeding for a few weeks but if you feel it is too much please call the midwife
> stay in bed, limit your physical activity
> drink plenty of water and make sure you’re eating
> don’t let anyone minimise your experience by saying ‘at least you got pregnant’ or it ‘wasn’t meant to be’

a little bit of hope. It took me 6 weeks to get back to some normality with my body but I fell pregnant at the end of feb and hoping this one sticks.

my biggest fear is I would never fall pregnant again x

@LivelyBird How are you doing?

@LivelyBird How are you doing?

Much better, thank you. Weird to read this back and remember how bad of a place I was in, for a few weeks after this happened.

I actually managed to conceive again on my next cycle. It wasn’t exactly a yay moment for us. I know some people wait before trying again but I liked the thought that I had some kind of control over the trying process. Taking ovulation tests etc. But I waited 1 period and it took on the next. At the time I felt happy it took so fast, but also like a fool because I knew I wasn’t emotionally ready if it lead to another loss.

I had some bleeding again around the same time as my first miscarriage, which was mentally awful, but this time they told me it was down to a small subchroinic heamatoma. Advised I take it easy and wait for it to bleed out or be absorbed. All was resolved by my 12 week scan and I’m now 15 weeks pregnant and things are looking good.

still Anxious, and check for blood on every wee, but I’m feeling more confident the further we get.

thanks for checking in.
