Pregnancy and progesterone - yuk!

im 6 weeks pregnant and started progesterone cyclogest pessaries 3 weeks ago. This week I have started to feel nausea, but mainly a feeling like my stomach is really sensitive and a bit like my gut is recovering from a stomach bug it’s very sensitive and tender. I’m also exhausted.

could this be the progesterone? Anyone had similar experiences on it? I’m worried cyclogest is masking a miscarriage by covering the symptoms. I’ve had 2 MMC infections prior to this - thanks!

I had progesterone in both pregnancies, first one from 22 weeks and the second from 14 weeks, I had nausea in my second pregnancy from 6 weeks, so before starting the progesterone. In my first pregnancy no nausea at all, so for me the only crap thing about it was the pessaries themselves and the discharge. Hope all goes well for you, sorry to hear about your previous losses x

It won't mask a miscarriage so don't worry about that, progesterone will only support a viable pregnancy.
Regarding symptoms, it's hard to tell what is pregnancy and what is progesterone but I think that cyclogest did amplify some for me. I had some gastro issues that persisted until stopping them at 16 weeks, which made me think those were due to the pessaries when other symptoms disappeared towards the end of the first trimester.

Cyclogest definitely amplified the pregnancy symptoms for me.

I swear it’s the only reason I had a successfully pregnancy after many losses.

I’m also on cyclogest and agree that it’s hard to tell what symptoms are caused by the progesterone and what’s caused by the pregnancy! Especially as this is my first. I think the cyclogest has definitely made me more bloated and tired, and my stomach has definitely felt ‘off’ for a long time - I haven’t been sick but I’ve had a lot of on/off nausea. I was also told it won’t necessarily mask a miscarriage either - I was also worried about a MMC so have had extra scans which have helped to put my mind at rest.

I was on pessaries, I was told pessaries should not result in specific or noticeable side effects, because the area of effect is much closer to the tablet inserted inside than when it gets swallowed. Swallowed tablets get processed by the system and that is what usually causes additional effects on the way. Pessaries may produce a more sensitive vulva/vagina and increased discharge. My most intense nausea was after I had the progesterone stopped. The most typical side effect of progesterone is constipation.

Thanks for your replies, that is really helpful! Maybe nausea is general pregnancy given the timing of it too. Sorry to hear of your losses @DrunkenElephant

Woke up today and the nausea has gone for the first time, cue more anxiety for another MMC… 😢

@KEW1606 I know it’s so hard but try not to panic - it’s really common for symptoms to come and go, especially around 6 weeks. At that point I had some days where I felt super nauseous and other days where I felt much more normal - it was only around 8 weeks that everything came much more relentless!
