Pregnancy

Spotting for 10 days at 7 and a half weeks

Morning all

A plea to help me rationalise before I go completely mad and read everything on the internet…

I’m 7+5 following a 5 day frozen transfer (IVF).
I’ve so far had two early scans - both between weeks 6 and 7 where I’ve been sent on my way and been told everything looks fine measurements and heartbeat wise (although I think a day or two small).
I started spotting two days before the second scan and this has not stopped yet. So we are now on day 10.
The spotting seems fairly predictable; starts in the afternoons and get two or three episodes, never in my underwear, just the loo roll. And generally speaking it’s brown to light brown (maybe very slightly pink on occasion) and it’s very mucous-y (sorry. Any dignity I possessed seems to have left my body).
And then it’s stopped by bed time.
I’m taking progesterone, but rectally. So it’s not that.
I’ve had three miscarriages and an ectopic so I’m higher risk for another one. And I’m getting on a bit. 39.

I do have another scan booked in next Tuesday. So will be 8+3. I don’t want one before hand because they don’t seem to mean much. I’ve had plenty of positive scans in the past only for it to go to shite!
I think I know that this is going to be a missed miscarriage. But I so desperately don’t want it to be. 😔

So. Any hand holders, words of wisdomers, pessimists, optimists out there who would care to weigh in before I go out of my tiny mind!!!

I think the only way you will know is if you call your EPAU as they can offer a scan and advice.

Bleeding is common and doesn't always mean a miscarriage. I have had bleeding every week until just over 9 weeks.

Good luck.

I had spotting weeks 6 / 7. Also IVF. Endless googling seems to suggest it could be due to the luteal-placental shift that takes place around week 7 which results in a slight dip in progesterone.

You could try to get an appointment with your local early pregnancy unit if you're concerned.

Thanks @LuxeBiscuit and @Strawbs92 for taking time to respond.
I am pretty sure my EPAU would see me - they are very good. But I am trying to wait until next week when I can be scanned by my consultant. Partly because I want him to do it and partly because if I am going to get scanned, I want to be passed 8 weeks so that chances of viability are higher (although think the chance would be a fine thing). Any other scans I have had have left me panicking even more afterwards because of the feeling of having so much more to lose.

I’m also starting to feel like symptoms are fading now, too. They weren’t massively strong (though more than I have had in previous pregnancies) but the sickness seems to be dissipating. I’m feeling quite resigned now.

It's such a horrible anxious time and I really feel for you. Unfortunately there's no way of knowing either way you can only take what is happening today..you have had positive scans and no severe pain or heavy bleeding so that is a good thing. I had a MMC last year diagnosed at early scan but knew from 6 weeks (also IVF) as the sac was empty it kept growing until 9 weeks but nothing ever developed, the fact you have a foetus and a heartbeat is a good sign.
I'm 28 weeks now and had some brown spotting from 7-12 weeks was obviously concerning but from what I understand it's very common. Try and hang in there!

I had brown mucus spotting from 7 weeks to 15 weeks as well as two proper bright red bleeds and baby was born last month unaffected. Best of luck hun x

@Cheetocat and @JRTfan thank you so much for your comments.

Even though I (and we all!) know that there is no definitive without a sonographer and one of those hideous probes, I take a lot of comfort in your stories and words.

i hope my story goes the same way!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

As other replies have said there is no way to truly know without a scan but...
Sorry to ask but did you experience bleeding with your miscarriages?
I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks and started bleeding at 13 weeks (my 12 week scan was delayed) and immediately knew something was wrong. However I bled at 6 weeks with my recent pregnancy and everything was fine, bled again at 9 weeks and now have a very happy 3 month old. Looking back the bleed was different but the feeling it caused at the time can't be described even at 9 weeks I was convinced I was loosing the baby despite (in hindesight) knowing the bleeding wasn't like it was with the miscarriage xxx
