It's really bad and it really hurts! I can only manage a little hard poo once or twice a week. I used to be a very regular girl! I'm drinking plenty of water and juice (wee is nicely pale after weeks of dehydration)and trying to eat fruit and brown bread. Also orange juice, but to no avail.

I'm 15 weeks with first baby if that matters.

Are there maybe any herbal teas that would help, as I find warm drinks much easier to drink than cold.

I was taking a laxative called Lactulose, but doc took me off it as it is dehydrating, and I have had lots of problems with dehydration due to nausea and vomiting.

do you have a sturdy lock on your lavvy door?

what you need to do is squat: it takes the pressure off the pelvic floor.

Put down lots of kitchen paper and squat. you can squeeze a full poo out instead of marbles

best of luck.

and lots of water or any kind of herbal tea and fruit juice and dried figs steeped in hot water and strained and drunk

...ok, LOTS of olive oil on pasta and salads. Dip brown bread in it, everything! And also eat plenty of dried apricots and figs, which you can get in those handy packs from the supermarket.

You'll be sh*tting through the eye of a needle within the week if my experience is anything to go by.

Oh, and liquorice is another REALLY good one, it gives you a good run for your money!
Lakeland sell the best stuff.

  1. Cup of warm water with a slice of lemon (every morinig) before breakfast.
  1. No caffine.
  1. Use something to raise your feet off the floor while pooing.
  1. The ususal, foods, apricots etc.

The lemon hot water thing in the morning will clear you out though. I got into the habit of drinking them all day and then I was going too much and had a sore "£$%.

All the best

Prunes.

Porridge.

Porridge topped with prunes

this is my no-fail solution.

I used to live on diacalm, had more of a prob stopping it!! Prunes and apricots just made me windy and my stomach is bug enough without making it worse.
Im 16 wks now and its started easing. Largely due to a morning bowl of Weetabix with a handfull of all bran and a large cup of coffee!! I have even gone twice a day!

lulu1414 · 28/03/2008 14:37

I had it really badly last time. ~Prune juice and prunes did it for me. This time not experiencing it at all- wierd. I had my prunes ready and everything! When did it start for you?

second the hot lemon before eating, first thing in the morning.

avoid milk/cheese/yoghurt.

eat grains (alpen etc) and dried fruit.

lactulose from the gps. It's a blinking miracle .

You're still better off doing the dietaryt hings too and having a walk every day helps. But the GP should be ahppy to prescribe you lactulose (and fybogel and senna if you need it)

As for squatting - I used to squat in the bath to poo when it was really bad. Easier to clean yourself up afterwards if you gave a shower in there and wiping is uncomfortable. . Shhhhh nobody knows

AHLH · 28/03/2008 15:20

Thanks folks, have stocked up on liquorice, dried apricots, dried figs and olive oil. GerradW, I'm not going back on Lactulose, it totally dehydrated me. Walking everyday too. Will experiment with squatting.
