First pregnancy due oct 24 and was having a think whether to have a baby moon. Been really sick in first trimester and things seem to be calming down however get the odd times of sickness.

I wanted to go somewhere warm/hot for a babymoon but worried about how far i can travel in terms of flight times etc.

Looking for ideas/insp on where to go and how far.

Following! Is it mad to be considering a 2 week trip to Japan at 22-23 weeks? We've always wanted to go and it fees like our last chance but also possibly being unrealistic!!

Personally I would not travel abroad after 23 weeks without going to a country with equally excellent neonatal care and very comprehensive travel insurance

@bby2024 heya - I am also due end of October 2024! I am a teacher so am a bit limited when I can take holidays - I’m thinking a babymoon in May half term so end of May / beginning of June when I will be 18 weeks ish. As it’s my first baby though it’s impossible to know how I’m going to feel! I was thinking somewhere in Europe rather than long haul (eg Sicily / Greece / Crete) and go for more of a beachy vibe than a big city break with lots of walking, but who knows maybe by then we will finally have that promised second trimester glow and energy!

I wouldnt do Japan. Babies still die in Japan because labouring mothers are denied hospital access if there are emergencies. They are also still quite barbaric with how you can give birth; very strict rules. I wouldn’t go there after 20 weeks just in case anything happen and you had a very early labour.

A babymoon in the ordinary sense is the period immediately after you've had the baby when you snuggle down with the baby and only your nearest and dearest.

Do you mean a holiday in the traditional babymoon period? That could be a little ambitious. Or are you talking about a holiday earlier than that, whilst still pregnant?

Isn't it just a holiday? Check airlines some are strict on when they'll allow you to fly. Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance, and be aware if you were to go in to labour early you'll need to know the local laws around registering the birth. Make sure you have plenty of funds available. Don't go anywhere that has a typhoid risk, or where there is a risk of mosquito borne diseases. There tends to be a greater risk of D & V with AI. And some places don't cook meat as thoroughly as we do in the UK.
You might prefer an actual babymoon, a few months after your baby is born, once you're in a bit of a routine and happy with the feeding side of things. We took a holiday when dd was four months old, and it was lovely, and relaxing with non of the usual chores! We went to Greece, and it was very relaxing (well as relaxing as it can be with a baby!).

We booked Greece before we found we were pregnant, I’ll be 21 weeks when we go! I’ve got a hospital appointment in May so was planning on getting the consultants advice on going then!

We’re off to Seville and Granada at 21 weeks (next week)! Wanted a short flight, warmth in the Spring and a mix of opportunities for activities and also opportunities to do nothing but hop from cafe to cafe lounging in sunshine. Midwife was totally fine with it and gave me a fit to fly note there and then during my 16 week appointment. Think I read your skin is more sensitive when preggo so make sure you have plenty of sun tan lotion! Plus check out local hospitals just in case you need them & don’t forget to pack antenatal notes

I went to the Canary Islands in Feb when I was 20 weeks which was lovely but I still struggled walking in the heat and it was only 24 degrees. I couldn’t sit in the sun between 11-3 either, as you are a lot more sensitive to the heat. Just some points to bear in mind when booking.

It is called a babymoon! or you can call it that. Enjoy! Be happy! Have fun.

I had my first during the pandemic and we obviously didn't go anywhere. I'm pregnant again, due in September. We are going to Majorca for a week in May, going to stay on the beach and relax with our little one. I'm very excited.

To get travel insurance you just need a note from your GP or midwife saying its ok to travel, and to go before 28 weeks. I am using Alpha Insurance.
