Just been sat here worrying as it’s dawned on me

I live with my grandmother at the moment she gardens a lot here and at my mothers, my mum has 5 cats she mentioned the other day she stood in cat poo while gardening so there is poo where she is gardnein this is one thing but obviously just gardening in general alot here and at my mums

unfortunately she hasn’t got the best hygiene sad to say she doesnt wash a lot etc
We obviously share kitchen bathroom etc
I am hygienic but if she’s not then I could possiby catch this?
now I’m worried sick she’s brought in germs from gardening and I’ve somehow contracted or come into contact with toxoplasmosis ? Is this possible to get it second hand ..
im 28 weeks and worried sick now

Is there anyway to tell I have this ? I’m really worried
she also doesn’t care about me being pregnant at all so asking her to stop gardening is pointless she’ll just have a go at me for asking/ she won’t understand

It is very rare, do you have symptoms?

I'd speak to your GP or midwife if you have concerns but try not to worry and just keep up with your personal hygiene.

I mean not that I know of I don’t think I have a midwife appointment in a week I’ll mention it then but I feel sick as I try so hard to keep my baby safe, staying away from sick people, etc and she just sabotages me I feel she even cleans the bathroom with mixing chemicals, doesn’t open windows and I asked her to not do this she doesn’t care

@redddssak bless you, hopefully it's just you worry it rather than having contracted something.

I know it's hard but try to not let worry consume you during pregnancy, you've got to 28w safely so continue doing what you're doing.

Do mention to your midwife about anxiety as it won't do you any good continuing with these feelings.

You can get a blood test for toxoplasmosis but the chances are that if you've grown up with cats you might already be immune.
Also the cat has to have had toxoplasmosis. It's not all cat poo.
Ask your midwife for a blood test to set your mind at rest. From now on the baby is just getting bigger rather than developing, so try to enjoy this stage. It could almost be born now and still be OK
Pregnancy znxiety is awful though...

Hey sorry to hear you are worried about this. It is very rare and you are obviously taking as good precautions as you can. just to let you know I was tested for this in pregnancy- it’s a simple blood test and it might help to put your mind at ease.

GrandparentIssues · 27/03/2024 00:05

There is a blood test to screen for toxoplasmosis antibodies.

You have to ingest (eat) the toxoplasmosis oocytes to become infected. Unless you grandmother cleaned the cat poo of her shoe and didn’t wash her hands properly before preparing food that you ate, you are fine. If it’s making you really anxious, wash utensils before you cook and prepare your own food.

redddssak · 27/03/2024 00:50

i just woke her up to ask her as it really bothering me she assured me she used gloves so I feel slightly better also she doesn’t cook for me etc so I don’t worry she prepared me food etc and didn’t wash hands

I totally understand your worries, it’s not easy becoming a mum, but if you are constantly worrying about staying away from sick people and are so anxious that you woke your DGM up in the middle of the night because you are concerned that she might have touched infected cat poo, that is very extreme. Perhaps you should discuss your health anxiety with your midwife? Stress isn’t good for your or baby either. Your midwife should be able to offer you some help and advice on staying healthy but also managing your health worries. Look after your mental health as well as your physical health 💐
