Induction at Birmingham Women’s

Hi,

i had my first baby a BWH and was induced (during Covid) it was ok but several issues have made me nervous about going through it again (will probably be another induction for medical reasons).
im currently 30 weeks pregnant and starting to feel a bit panicked… has anyone been induced or had a longer stay at BWH since Covid? Any info would be great as their website is not very up to date with how long partners can stay etc and the midwives I have seen so far have brushed off my questions….

Hi OP,

this may be completely irrelevant but thought it might be similar. I live in Solihull and just had my baby at Warwick, I was induced and then needed to stay in for 3 days due to other complications (not related to the induction). My partner was allowed there 24hrs a day when I was in a private room and then also when I was moved onto the ward. When I was in the room alone my mum was also allowed to be there, when I went onto the ward Mum was only during visitor hours. My partner didn’t stay once I was moved onto the ward but most of the other women had their partners with them over night. I have to say the whole experience despite the obvious worry of being induced and the other complications was actually fine and I was very well looked after. X

Thank you, that gives me such a boost, I think I’m more worried about being alone after the birth as that’s when I had issues last time…. I’m hoping to get a definitive answer from them at my next appointment but they are really vague!

I really doubt that would be the case now everything was back to normal when I was there and that was 8 weeks ago. Hope everything goes well! X

Hi @Knickerbockerglories

I gave birth at BWH during lockdown in 2020 so know what you mean about partners having to leave immediately after.

I'm 31w into my second pregnancy and had a birth options meeting with a consultant midwife and asked all about the restrictions now. She reassured me that partners are allowed all day/during labour etc. However they aren't allowed to stop overnight.

I am also very nervous, so know how you feel 🙂 Hope that helps!

Thank you, I just wish they would tell me the actual rules now! X

Something like meeting with the consultant midwife is exactly what I’ve been asking for but they just brush me off and say ask the doctor if I have specific questions but I’m under 2 consultants who don’t deal with the non specialist medical side of things…. Now I know what to ask for I shall try asking for a consultant midwife appointment, thank you x

Ah sorry to hear you are being brushed off.

I've just checked my letter and it was called a Birth Opinion referral. She basically talked me through all my options (birth centre, delivery suite, elective cesarean etc) and offered me a tour of the facilities. But she was very well informed and reassured me that my partner will be able to stay.

That sounds like exactly the thing I want! Thank you, I will call them now!
