Hi could anyone tell me their experiences with pain and symptoms regarding ectopic pregnancies?

since this afternoon I have had a pain in my shoulder.. no other symptoms- no abdominal pain and/ or bleeding. Literally just this pain in my shoulder… is this the first sign of an ectopic or a later sign which means its probably nothing. Im an overly cautious person im 35.

please help

TBH best call NHS 111 for further advice. Shoulder tip pain is listed as a possible symptom. IF it could be ectopic it’s better found sooner rather than later. I truly hope it is simply a pulled muscle but it really is best to get some medical advice from the NHS.

From everything I have read that would be a later symptom as it's if something has ruptured and I would imagine that you would have had other symptoms and be further on for that to be related to ectopic.
I was having lots of one sided pain early on and was really anxious so phoned EPU and they were lovely and scanned me and all fine but they said they always scan if there are ectopic symptoms to rule it out. So might be worth a call just to reassure you. Once you are worried you're likely to notice every little pain!

Hello. I had an ectopic pregnancy. I think shoulder tip pain is one of the more rare symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. I didn't have it, despite internal bleeding that required surgery. According to the a&e Dr I saw, by the time you have shoulder pain you're in a pretty bad state generally and would definitely know you were in trouble.
That said, no harm in getting checked out if you are worried! Even if it's just a private scan... nothing worse than feeling anxious.

Well I had two ectopics without any pain, but shoulder tip pain is a potential symptom. I doubt there is anything wrong but you should be seen to rule ectopic out.

My ectopic was a late one at 12 weeks - I had absolutely no symptoms until that day when I got crippling abdominal pain. The shoulder tip pain was the very last thing and it was very painful. I think it's the last symptom because usually means it's ruptured - at least that was my experience. It never hurts to get checked out though because everyone is different.

I had one sided pain & lower back pain for a few days before I started bleeding, Shoulder pain usually comes when the rupture has happened and the blood/fluid is aggravating nerves. I didn’t rupture and didnt have shoulder pain.
the pain I had was pretty severe by the time I went the EPAU, I had shooting pains up my bum/back and couldn’t lie down or stand up comfortably. I’d say it’s pretty obvious somethings not right with the severity of the pain.

trapped wind and digestive discomfort can be onesided so may be this, very common as hormones causing havoc to digestive tract.

I would still say get checked out if the pain doesn’t go in a day or so just to put your mind at ease from a medical professional. X

I've had two ectopics without pain and with atypical symptoms.

As such I'd urge you to get checked, because you never know and your local EPU should scan you if you present with shoulder pain.

I had an ectopic pregnancy. Severe abdominal pain, with blacking out. No shoulder pain but I did have pain on breathing deeply. I believe that is linked to shoulder pain and comes from the internal bleeding causing irritation. As such, likely a later symptom. I’m not medical though, and if you’re worried, I’d get checked out. NICE guidelines, when I had mine, were any woman of childbearing age with severe abdominal pain should be assumed to have an ectopic pregnancy until proven otherwise, although that didn’t happen for me and I nearly died, hence why I’d get checked if you’re concerned.
For reassurance, I lost a tube but went on to have a healthy daughter.

hi everyone thank you so much for all of your replies, i ended up giving in and talking to my miwife and the nerves were stressing me out big time and she pretty much said the same thing as you guys and that the shoulder pain i was getting pretty much most like would not be ectopic shoulder pain as by the time that happened i would have had other symptoms. since that day i put on here the pain went away, ive had no symptoms apart from tiredness 6+2 and havent been hit by the nausea train yet x

Hey! Well done for talking to your midwife 🙂

I'm 17wks and no sickness with this pregnancy. All fine & a wriggly little baby so don't worry if you don't feel sick at all.
