Can 20 week scan give idea of birth weight

Or is it still too early. Baby was measuring slightly smaller. Around 30th centile. Do you think baby will be smaller or can they still have a serious growth spout and end up being a big baby? I know nobody can say for certain but jusy curious

I was given an estimated delivery weight based on measurements at my 20 week scan. I’m currently in the process of being induced and the midwife estimated baby’s weight again which is similar to my 20 week scan.

I was told 36th percentile at 20 weeks, jumped up to 50th by 29 weeks 😊

I wouldn't have thought so, there were 2 ounces difference between my kids but they were completely different sizes. The smaller one was heavier.

My bigger than average baby measured ahead from day one and my smaller than average baby measured behind from day one. Not sure about average sized babies but that’s my experience.

I'd say not, my first went up the charts (almost enough for me to be tested for gestational diabetes) but then was born early and around 7 pounds. My little one dropped down the charts, but only one percentile and for this reason they wanted to induce, but I declined and he was born a similar weight as my first at 40 weeks. They both were roughly 50 percentile at 20 weeks scan. I had extra scans with little one due to the blood flow, and this has been linked to small babies.

It might but remember that babies put in most of their fat during the last few weeks of pregnancy so if they come early they will be smaller regardless. I had two later than term babies, both nearly 9 pounds, and two 4 weeks early who were around 5 pounds.

They're now all either teens or approaching teens and all on similar weight/height trajectory so I reckon if the earlies had cooked a bit longer theyd have ended up similar birth weight to the late comers.

Can't remember what was predicted at 20 wk scan but I do remember that ds1 who went 2.5 weeks over was confidently predicted to be 10-11lbs during those last weeks (had to be scanned regularly as I refused to be induced) and absolutely wasn't so I'm not convinced theres much accuracy in the scanning and weight tbh.
