Hi everyone

prior to my SMM, I looked online a lot to see what others experiences were but feel like my own experience was very different so wanted to share this.

I went in at 7:30am on Wednesday for my SMM. I had a visit from the doctor doing my procedure, nurse to take bloods and anaesthetist asking me some questions. I went in for the procedure around 11am and was quite nervous as in the anaesthesia room, it was very overwhelming with around 4-5 people on top of me doing various things simultaneously. I told the doctor I felt really overwhelmed and he calmed me down and held an oxygen mask down. Next thing I remember is waking up in the recovery room and being told I’d lost almost a litre of blood during the procedure and apparently my bloods prior to the procedure showed I was anemic (102) which meant I’d have to stay overnight! At no point prior to this was I told that there is a possibility I’d stay overnight so I was quite confused and wasn’t prepared. Luckily my husband was able to go and get my stuff for an overnight stay as the visiting time was until 8pm.
Anyway, got taken up to the ward by the porter and given some food at around 2:30pm. Repeat bloods were taken at around 6pm which showed my hb levels had dropped to around 90.
I felt extremely weak, my legs felt like jelly which I think was due to both the anaesthesia as well as the loss of blood.
The next day, I got to go home around 2pm only because I refused the iron infusion and took home some iron tablets instead.
its now around day 3 and my emotions are a mess. This was not a planned pregnancy and I have 2 kids already so I was not expecting to feel the loss much, and tbh the first 2 days I didn’t but today I’m really emotional, keep crying and feel really “lonely”. I’m sure it’s my hormones now dropping after the pregnancy but I’m really struggling.

if anyone else has been through this recently it would be nice to hear how you found it.

thank you

Anesthestic always makes me feel weepy on day three after any operation.
Hope you start to feel better soon x

Hi, I remember having my surgical management on a Wednesday, on the Thursday I felt ok, relieved almost as I was worried about surgery etc.

By Friday night I remember sobbing in the shower. I remember the water feeling unbearable on my breasts so assumed it was all the happy pregnancy hormones had now gone.

It will get easier with time. Months not weeks for me. I had a small toddler at the time and he would have kept me going.
