I'm around 20 weeks pregnant, and the house has had scaffolding up for the duration of my pregnancy. That may be coming down, but now they are working on the interior and there is a lot of dust everywhere and paint flakes everywhere. As the weather gets warmer I want to open the windows, but there is just so much dust. It's also a 4th floor walk up

I'm wondering if it is worth moving now to escape the dust. I haven't bought anything for the baby yet but I want to at least start preparing her room. The flat is lovely once you are inside, but getting in is a struggle.

I wouldn't worry about the baby's room, I don't see why they need their own room initially, as surely they'll sleep in your room for 6 months? And you don't need to buy anything yet, you have so long to go. I don't' really understand your post though, are they doing renovations to the exterior of the building.

Sorry I guess I was unclear! The whole building exterior is covered in scaffolding and there is dust that gets into the flat. I live on the 3rd floor, and all the common areas getting into the flat are covered in dust and constructions materials as well. So it is a mix of the interior and exterior of the building.

Well, is there a residents' association for building inhabitants who can get information about the projected length of the renovations, rather than just asking the builders on site? Though a foreman might have information, too.

I can't say I would be much bothered about dust in the hallways or scaffolding, but if you have a newborn and the works are still happening, builder noise during the day time will camouflaging for the sake of baby naps. But you still have half your pregnancy to go, so if you're otherwise happy with your living situation, I wouldn't move. Oh, and DS didn't have his own room until he was about two. He had a sidelong cot in our room, and his clothes lived in a chest of drawers in my study.

When will the works finish? 20wks is early to start buying stuff for the baby, you’re only halfway through! The baby won’t need a room of its own for at least a year from now.

I'm renting so I've asked the landlord if he knows when the works will be finished. So far everything has been delayed by three months
