How much tea it is safe to drink when pregnant seems to be a bit of conflicting views on this....like alcohol too.
Ive been drinking 3-4 cups of reg tea per day, no coffee, no cola. Now this I believe adds up to 200mg and the safe guide is 300mg yet many people seem to think this is too much.....what do others do/think??

I decided to play safe and switched to decaff and I really can't tell the difference

LilyToTheB · 27/03/2008 17:45

Yeah me too, I love my morning cuppa so have a decaf now. Really tastes the same

Seabright · 27/03/2008 17:55

My booklet from the midwife says 6 cups of tea a day are OK

beforesunrise · 27/03/2008 18:03

first pregnancy i went totally decaf. this pregnancy have been so totally knackered (insomniac dd) and stressed out at work i have been really needing my latte in the morning and then a tea after lunch. or two.

i think one or two cups a day are absolutely fine, and tea much weaker than coffee anyway.

the real deal i think is bfing- if you are planning to do it. some babies v sensitive to it and won't sleep if you drink any caffeine...

I don't know how pregnant you are, but you may go off caffeinated products completely. I love tea, live on the stuff (literally - I drink water rarely, get almost all my fluids from tea) ordinarily, but an early pregnancy symptom for me is that it starts to taste filthy. It's depressing, actually, because I can still remember what tea really tastes like, and I crave it - even absent-mindedly pop the kettle on before remembering.

Chocolate and coffee are the same deal. So miserable.

ooh now im worried am 17weeks pregnant and didnt no about this caffiene thing i drink diet coke all day long it was my craving with my first child and have drank it ever since. how much should i be drinking and whar are the effects of caffine to babys?

Jane7 · 31/03/2008 11:05

I'm 13 weeks and am just starting to feel like my morning latte again, and boy does it help me get my work done. I know caffeine isn't great for you, but as I see it, a latte a day isn't too catastrophic. If it taste good and it's waht you feel like, it can't be all bad.

7monthsplus · 31/03/2008 11:35

i, I did the same as francesd and switched to decaff.. they are so good now adays that I wont be switching back after baby is here.

Maria2007 · 31/03/2008 12:04

I drink 2 cups of earl grey tea (which is quite mild) every morning. I think that should be perfectly ok... not sure about breastfeeding though, perhaps at that point even this small amount might be too much?

AHLH · 31/03/2008 12:13

I've just gone right off caffeine!

gegs73 · 31/03/2008 12:20

With DS2 I had about 4 cups a day as it was the only thing that stopped me feeling sick!

You really cannot taste the difference between decaf coffee and tea. Tried it out on a friend - she was amazed that there was no difference.

Do like a herbal teas though in the evening.
