Hi all, iv got myself super worked up today and looking for advice. My last two midwife appointments, including an earlier growth scan, have shown my baby to be the ideal weight. Its never been an issue and he's been bang in the centre of the chart both times. However, today I went for my 34 week midwife appointment and she's had to refer me for a growth scan as he's measure really big now. I don't get how he's gone from being perfect to so big in such a short amount of time! I asked the midwife what will happen if the growth scan shows true to what she measured today but she wouldn't really go into it. She just advised to wait and see what the scan says, maybe it's because she sensed my anxiety. Does anyone know what will happen if he is measuring as big as what they say and what it will mean going forward? I'm just getting so anxious and just wasn't expecting it.

In my first pregnancy I had a growth scan for being too big then the next time too small and then the next another for measuring too big. Each time we went for growth scan everything was absolutely fine and DS was born at 40+2 at 7lb 1 oz. In my second pregnancy 5 years later I also had one growth scan for measuring big and all was fine, DS2 born on his due date at 9lb. Try not to worry too much.

Belly measurements are quite commonly off. Depends of position of baby too. My sister went from measuring way too far ahead, to behind! (Scans show bang on middle line growth the entire time). My belly always measures small, but scans show my baby measures big. Now she's dropped lower my belly looks smaller still, meaning my appointment next week I already know I will measure small! I also have the midwives constantly telling me she's breech from feeling the belly when every scan I've had since 28 weeks she's been head down! (37+1) now. I think it's so so easy for these measurements to be wrong

My first pregnancy the fundal measurement kept alternativing between too big and too small. They sent me for a scan every time; one time they said he was very long. Anyway, baby was healthy and is now 2.5 with no growth concerns.

Easier said than done, but don't worry until you have something to worry about.

I measured big all through both of my pregnancies. They were 8lb 15 ozs, and 7lb 12oz, and both times I was induced because I was way overdue.

I had an extra scan during my second pregnancy because they thought he was getting too big. The growth scan showed he was quite big. He was born 38+5 at 7lb 15oz: significantly smaller than his 8lb 12oz sister, who they never had any worries about. It's far from an exact science from my experience.

I had a growth scan at 32 weeks and my DS was measuring big. Had to go for a diabetes test as they thought that might have caused the chunkiness- it was negative and he was born at 7lb! So even scans can be totally off.
