Insomnia - 4am baby party.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant, and for the last two/three weeks I have been waking up between 2-4am with (what feels like) a baby party going on (kicking, stretching, squirming, poking).

After going to the toilet, getting hungry and generally staring into space (feeling like I want to kick my other half snoring next to me), I find it hard to sleep again. It has been a little difficult at work as I get up at 6am feeling tired and making mistakes.

What is everyone else doing? Going to bed at 7pm?

Heyyy, I had this with my first, I think it's totally normal, I ended up getting a single duvet and sleeping on the sofa downstairs which helped and got soem ear plugs so I got my sleep in, it's so important you try and get your sleep in hun best you can, just don't go wearing yourself out as sometimes the birth can take a lot from you then then waking so you want to be as rested as you can be. I found a full belly helped me to sleep and the Quaker porridge protein oats are a good few hours!!! That and ribena!

Is this your first/second/third??

I've got a dd already she's 4, I'm almost 7 wks now but this pregnancy already feels so bloody different! I don't remember feeling much different at all first time but since a wk ago ravenous unrelenting hubger is kicking in along with some disconcerting fainting feelings which I have not enjoyed one bit! I was panicking thinking what have I done and last nihhhr didn't sleep a wink as kept waking up feeling like I was burning up but I don't so far have a temp but so so tired! I was thinking is it my age as I'm 39 but I don't think so as so many women on here have sailed pregnancy's over 40 and some older than that! I'm hoping I've just picked up a virus and it'll become obv soon but god I feel rough!

Sleep and rest is so important but I found waking middle of the nt very normal near the last stage, bananas, porridge and high protein helped a lot! Xxx

Thanks for replying, I will try and fall asleep with a full stomach and see if it helps.

This is my 5th! Funny to say that I have never had insomnia in pregnancy before, usually the opposite - not waking up and sleeping all the time.

I wake up feeling super hot too and end up opening the window, then my DP complains it’s cold. Definitely not your age because I am 43 and this is new to me too.

Just happy it is a Sunday and I don’t need to use my brain. Just rest.

I'm 26 weeks and I'm sleeping in the spare room I toss and turn so much that neither of us sleep if we are in the same bed I've a whole mountain of pillows as well to try get somewhat comfortable which I'm sure will only get worse . Do you have the option to sleep in another room ? I'm wrecked all the time and that's with sleeping in a bed on my own I don't know how anyone manages sharing a bed in pregnancy .

In bed I sleep sitting up on a bean bag surrounded by pillows as well. I look funny, but most of the time it is comfortable (apart from neck falling to the side sometimes). I always end up walking downstairs and sleeping on the sofa with the cat, but he doesn’t look impressed when he shares.

My DP hasn’t been looking so rested lately, so maybe you have a point about me moving and opening/closing windows/toilet/munching and his lack of restful sleep. I will ask him.

We have a spare room, but it is being refurbished due to water leak.

@Silverfoxlady oh wow!!! Good for you, that's given me a lot of hope, I always get the insomnia I did for a bit near the end wi th the last and occ get it since, so annoying it is tho, but yes happy Sunday makes and jo school run at least x

@LizzeyBenett Same! I think I'll prob end up on the sofa again soon or the spare room too, it's a relief having that space if needed tho abs needed when baby comes too if we need to take shifts so one can toddle off with ear plugs and zone out, massively helped us having that option when we had our first x
