Why did I start googling on breech babies - have scared myself now

Am breech at 34 weeks and have just read that breech babies have an increased risk of birth defects.

Am the world's biggest worrier and wish I'd not looked now as am going to worry about it for the next 6 weeks. Aaarrrgggghhhh.

googling is a double edged sword, great for info but sometimes tooooo much info

breech babies are really common and the risks you describe apply to very very few babies, but I expect you read that bit as well

did you also google all the ways of trying to make babies turn btw? I ended up crawling down the stairs head first, complete madness, but it did work .

What???!!! How does that work exactly. Breech just means arse first right. DD was breach at 34 weeks, cephalic at 36, back to breech at 38 and head down at 40. Still came out the catflap but that's another story.

You have lots of time for your baby to turn and chances are there is bugger all wrong with the baby other than it not liking hanging out upside down (who does!)

Now stop googling, not everything on the Internet is accurate or real. Go read up on optimal fetal positioning or turning a breech baby instead.

DD was breech and I almost looked on it as a postive thing - because DD was breech they were more aware to check things. As one example, she's had her hips checked by U/S as breech babies are more likely to have hip dysplasia, which isn't standard in the UK (some countries check all babies, as the earlier you catch it the easier it is to fix).

I bet the risk is still really tiny, anyway. Try not to stress too much - I'm sure your LO is fine

hotpotmama · 26/03/2008 22:48

Yes have done that. Not sure am brave enough to crawl down the stairs like that, would probably end up in A and E!!

Really wasn't expecting this as is my 3rd baby and other 2 were straightforward.

Ah well, still got time to turn, just feeling sorry for myself in case I have to have a c/s.

Thanks for your reply, Morocco.

Dd was breech right up until about 37wks, then transverse and then finally the right way up. Like yours she was my 3rd and the other two had been head-down pretty much all the way.

Step away from Google.

Thanks too WMMC and tangle. Said I was the world's biggest worrier, eh!

Will try my best not to google it anymore and just think positive and try anything that will turn it naturally!

If you want to do some more positive googling, look up Mary Cronk. You don't have to have a CS just because your baby is breech - you do have a choice

hotpotmama · 26/03/2008 22:56

ok will do, thanks

get down those stairs!

KristinaM · 26/03/2008 22:57

i had two breech babies. one turned himself some time after week 37 and the other was turned by ECV

they were different kinds of breech - one was transverse and one with legs extended (cant rememebr teh name)

neither had birth defects

hotpotmama · 26/03/2008 23:08

Ok may try the stairs but just the bottom few steps, may progress higher if I don't end up head over heels!

DH is in bed, would find it very amusing if he sees me doing the stairs thing
