Contractions have stopped...what to do?

Just after some advice/anyone experienced similar? So fed up!
I am 39+1 with second baby.

First child is 8 years old had a fairly quick and straight forward natural labour/birth. Was expecting this one to follow suit or even be quicker!

Lastnight I started getting contractions around 11pm, went to the birth unit at 4am as contractions had gotten 3-4mins apart and lasting up to a minute.

Got examined was only 1cm 🙄 got sent home told to go back when things progressed.
Managed to rest for an hour then contractions got stronger by 8am this morning.
Decided to take a bath....MASSIVE REGRET!

The bath seemed to slow everything down, contractions were still there but getting mild and by 1pm today the contractions just stopped! 😩
How can I contract for 14 hours then nothing!? I've had maybe 3-4 irregular but mild contractions since then and now I'm trying to think of ways to bring them on again as I feel if I hadn't had the bath things would have progressed 😩

Managed a big sleep this afternoon so now I'm full of energy just waiting

Do I just sit and wait? Is there anything I can do to try and bring them on again 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Cindy1802
Still absolutely nothing 😭
I am so annoyed/fed up
I'm trying my hardest to just keep busy, walking, cleaning etc but I end up in absolute agony!
I've suffered a lot of pelvic pain the last few months and that's gotten worse!
Everytime I walk/clean around the house or do anything for more than 10 mins I end up with tightenings, but then this constant stitch like throbbing pain that goes down my side, pelvis and legs.

I've been walking/cleaning/ bouncing on ball (that does ease the pelvis pain)

But absolutely no movement with contractions whatsoever! 🥺 had plenty of braxton hicks since but no actual contractions, it's baffled me.

Sounds dramatic but I broke down in tears as soon as I woke up this morning, I'm just so uncomfortable/fed up and just don't see the end to this

Aww love I had a really long latent phase for weeks I know how you feel..constant stop start contractions that fizzled out it was so frustrating. Angry
Any chance of getting a membrane sweep? I had 2 and the second one got my labour going.
On the plus side due to all that practice the pushing phase was very easy and quick. Grin

Arrgh this was me with my first! I literally stopped and started without progress for three weeks. I was terrified my body had no idea what to do/ there was something wrong. All the old wives stuff didn't work. In the end I begged for a sweep and it tipped me over the edge. But I then had a really long 5 day labour so I'm not convinced that was what I should have done. If i could do it again I'd sleep, rest and try and go with it. My second labour was 1hr 30 start to finish, completely different.

Things may have progressed for you already but this was me with baby number 2. The first came very quickly with no prior warning at 38 weeks, so I was expecting the same. Contractions started with baby 2 on the Monday 39 weeks but never ramped up then just stopped. Nothing else until early hours of Thursday when I woke up to waters breaking and baby arrived an hour later.

I was never examined but was also losing mucus plug on the Monday so assume I was dilated at that point too.

They will be here soon (if not already!)

Yes hope you’re on your way now op but to encourage you, I had this kind of on off thing for a week with my second, mostly contracting late in the day and would go to bed and it would all stop. Then I had a sweep and baby was born within 2 hours, it was a very easy and even enjoyable labour. I think my body had been working all that week to get her in optimum position.

Viola000 · 14/03/2024 21:17

Still no movement here! 😫 Thanks all for replies, nice to know others have experienced the same and that the end is near 🤞🏻😂

Still cramping on and off every day/ was cramping through the night last night then woke to nothing!

Still loosing bits of mucus plug every day and also a lot of stabbing pain in my cervix as baby so low!

I'm seeing midwife tomorrow morning for a sweep so hoping that will get things going 🤞🏻🤞🏻

How you getting on?

Viola000 · 15/03/2024 10:18

Just been to see midwife, she wouldn't give me a sweep 🙄 said I have to wait until I am 40+5 so another 6 days 😤

But sending me in to hospital for a test to see wether my waters have been leaking or not as I have been loosing a lot of discharge and feeling really wet constantly last 2 days

Said if the waters have started going and I don't go in to labour the next 24 hours I will have to be induced....which is not what I wanted 🥺

So I've just had a mini meltdown in the car and waiting for my partner to come home to take me up the hospital

She said regarding me have contractions that just stopped that it might have been a case that everything was happening then when I had a bath baby could have moved position slightly and that could then slow it down/stopped it 🤷🏼‍♀️ baffled 😂

I know it's hard to be patient. My son was born at 40+3 (33years ago) and I was like you. As long as you can feel plenty of movement and keep active baby will arrive right on (his/her)schedule. The real signs foe me of actually being ready to go were feeling uncomfortably warm compared to the people I was with and a sudden burst of energy allowing me to run up a flight of stairs which I struggled to get down a couple of hours earlier. Hoping you're holding your baby soon 🤱 😍

Toblerbone · 15/03/2024 10:35

Feel for you OP! I didn't have stop/start labour but I was a week overdue and I was so fed up! Fingers crossed things happen soon🤞

Flyingfruit · 15/03/2024 20:10

Hope all ok OP

MrsTrue · 15/03/2024 21:06

Take a look at the spinning babies website, if the delay is position related there may be something that could help in their website.

Best of luck!

Congrats! Hope labour (when it finally actually happened) wasn't too bad 🙂

snoopy18 · 19/03/2024 23:37

Aww amazing congratulations

LightSpeeds · 19/03/2024 23:41

😀 Congratulations! 🥳

Viola000 · 20/03/2024 06:35

Thanks all 😊 wasn't as quick and easy as I'd hoped 😂

My first was 4lbs 13oz (so half the size) with a 4 hour active labour, plus she's 8 now so it's been a long time 😂

Was all going to plan at birth centre was having a water birth, I was calm, things were great. Then they decided to burst my waters when I was 9cm as I was getting urge to push.

Baby had pooped inside me then his heart rate was dropping so was a massive rush up to labour ward, people everywhere, I was in absolute agony, ended with them cutting me and using suction cup as baby was big and at a funny angle 🤦🏼‍♀️😩

I mean all worth it now 🥰

but that's 100% my last time 😂
