Pregnancy unknown location

Hello,

Hope you’re all well.

I am posting this to see if anyone has had any similar experiences.

From my estimate I’m only 4 weeks 6 days pregnant. I had some slight spotting last week which I wasn’t too concerned about. But, last night I had some pink discharge whilst wiping what turned into a slight bleed with red blood but no clots. The bleed lasted approx an hour and then turned into brown discharge whilst wiping.

With the bleed I was quite concerned so I called NHS 111 and saw an out of hours GP who fought for me to be seen in the EPU today with the gyno registrar.

I have visited the EPU today where I had an ultrasound and some blood tests and was advised it is a pregnancy of unknown location and I will need to go back in 48 hours to repeat some blood tests to check my HCG levels.

I was left distraught as the nurses didn’t seem too positive this was going to become a successful pregnancy. I also found out that on my left ovary I have a cyst or mass which will need further testing.

Today I’ve had no loss of red blood, but sometimes when I wipe there is brown specks. I also have a feeling of heaviness/pressure in my groin area.

This is my first pregnancy and I hope you understand I am feeling quite anxious and lost at the moment with all this going on.

Just wanting to see if anyone else has had any similar experiences and what were the outcomes?

I did have a similar experience the first time I was pregnant. I spent 3 weeks going back and forth having repeat bloods and scans. Unfortunately after 3 weeks they found fluid in my pelvis which then led them to conclude it was an ectopic pregnancy that was rupturing. I had emergency surgery to remove my tube and the pregnancy. I also had a cyst on my left ovary which they drained during the operation.

The cyst (as often happens when they are just drained) returned pretty quickly (I was annoyed they didn't just remove it when they took the tube) so I had to then have another operation to remove it as it grew and pressed on my remaining tube.

I was very worried how all this would affect my fertility. I did get them to perform a hycosy whilst they were removing the cyst and was relieved to find the tube was clear and liquid passed through easily. I have gone on to have 2 successful pregnancies despite the tube loss. It took a while for my body to recover from the surgeries but I got there in the end.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Best wishes for you, I well remember how horribly distressing it was going through all this. Lots of love.

Sorry you’re going through this.

Mine also wasn’t a good outcome. I had side pain, back pain, and cramping, then started to spot at 5w4d. had a scan a few days later (6w) and it was a PUL. My HCG was very low at 151. A few days later I miscarried, my hcg went to 44 but then started to rise again. After many more scans and blood tests it was concluded as ectopic. I didn’t rupture but had methotroxocate which worked.

Feel free to get back in touch if you want to know anymore.

I really hope it’s not bad news for you, the nurses did tell me that some women come back after a PUL and scan and locate the sac etc… I hope this is the case for you x

Hello everyone, thanks so much for the responses☺️
Just thought I would give an update. I’ve had various scans with the EPU where for the last 10 weeks there has been growth, but was very hard to find a heartbeat. So I’ve been told various things that it is a chemical, ectopic or molar pregnancy. On a scan done at around 6/7 weeks a large SCH was found.
Sadly, I had another ultrasound yesterday where the sac has started to break down and my womb is covered in blood, thus I’ve been told it is a missed miscarriage. So currently decided to do the natural approach to wait for the miscarriage to happen. I may change my mind in the next few days, but the EPU have said to just call them.
So yeah not the answer I was hoping for, but finally happy to get a straight answer from EPU after 10 weeks to recover from this both mentally and physically. It has been such a heartbreaking experience attending hospital every 2 weeks for scans and blood tests etc. to be given hope and then for it to come crashing down.
But I hope your all well☺️
