Omeprazole not really helping heartburn

So fed up. I'm 18 weeks and had heartburn/indigestion from 6 weeks on the dot. For me it isn't chest pain or anything but acid in my throat and constantly feeling food is coming back up my throat after I've eaten. I'm on 40mg omeprazole a day AND rennies and it helps with the acid but not the feeling of food coming back up and general feeling of yuck. It's driving me demented. I had it in my last pregnancy but not til the third trimester and it was treatable with Gaviscon. Everyone else says omeprazole sorted them right out, it hasn't me.

Jacobs cream crackers with milk used to mop some up

I'm an omeprazole veteran. What I found recently when I bought some nexium over the counter is that it works better for me. You could try one nexium in the evening and 20mg of omeprazole in the morning .Also Maalox beside the bed I have a dose when I go to bed. Maalox is very old fashioned but jeepers it works in minutes.

Nexium is esomeprazole, not omeprazole. Definitely check with a pharmacist before you buy anything like that over the counter.

IME if you're pregnant a pharmacist will just tell you you can't take anything.

IME pharmacists are the experts on medicines and have access to many resources as to which medicines can be used in pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding, as well as looking at interactions with other medications.

Well my previous experience was that they told me I couldn't take gaviscon and wouldn't sell it to me, when my GP expressly said I could.

They also wouldn't sell me any co codamol for migraines, again when my consultant obstetrician had OK'd it in the second trimester.

GPs are not the experts in medicines.

Pregnant women absolutely can take gaviscon. The pharmacist was wrong about that.

Oh, they also told me I couldn't take aspirin, which again I had been told to take as a blood thinner by my consultant obstetrician.

My experience with pharmacists is when you're pregnant they err very strongly on the side of caution.

I suffer reflux and food coming back up. I use gaviscon and nexium, but the thing that really helps is small portions, lots of veg and unfortunately no pasta or bread.
