Cat leaped on stomach

I'm very tender and sore now. Currently almost 21 weeks. I'm going to ask my midwife to bring me in but should I do it today or wait til tomorrow. I'm worried its harmed the baby but is it something that would harm baby immediately or have a delayed effect and would I be better asking to come in tomorrow for a scan

I remember worrying about something similar when I was pregnant (far too many years ago) and the midwife told me that the baby is very well protected in there - she even knew of mums who had fallen on the stairs, so the edge of the step hit their stomach, with absolutely no ill effects for the baby or the mum.

All that said, if you are worried, could you phone the maternity unit - I am sure they would put your mind at rest.

It won't harm the baby, unless you're going to drip feed that your cat is in fact a fully grown tiger.

Baby is cushioned in a bunch of fluid designed to protect it from any bumps etc.

Thanks for the reassurance. I think what's concerning me is baby was kicking right up until it happened and now I haven't felt anything since

Lots of people have much heavier toddlers and children bounding off their bumps almost daily. Your cat won't have done any harm. My cat uses my belly as a stepping stone to jump up higher lol I'm about to turn 35 weeks

NewYearNewMeMamma · 02/03/2024 17:00

I had a very solid 2 year old jump on my 30w bump - I was absolutely fine. I highly doubt a cat is going to cause any damage. Baby is very well protected in there.

WhatInFreshHell · 02/03/2024 17:04

Jesus, how heavy is your cat?!

SquashPenguin · 02/03/2024 17:06

My 13kg pug has been jumping on my 29wk bump since day one, everything is fine!

higgo93 · 02/03/2024 17:12

You shouldn’t worry about your cat, your baby is probably sleeping. I had a staffy and several cats using me as a trampoline and horses pushing me round right up until my son’s due date.

CoconutGirI · 02/03/2024 17:27

I've left a message on maternity machine anyway for some reassurance hopefully. He's not a huge cat but very sturdy and leaped down on me from probably 2 metres away. The sudden impact felt intense and painful which is why I'm not worried. Had he just stepped on me or walked over me I probably wouldn't be concerned but irs just the fact he jumped right on my bump

@CoconutGirI how are you getting on? Has Babba moved again yet? I'm sure they are absolutely fine in there. As others have said, they are very well cushioned and protected 💕 Still, deffo wouldn't harm to be checked over - more to ease your anxiety than anything. Sending a hug!

rickandmorts · 02/03/2024 22:50

I got kicked in the stomach by a horse at a similar gestation and texted my midwife and she said baby is very well protected at that stage so not to worry. I think you'll be absolutely fine if a cat has jumped on your belly x

Contraryjane · 02/03/2024 23:11

I’m sure that the cat will be fine.

LadyBird1973 · 03/03/2024 10:24

I think you should get checked out for your own peace of mind, but unless you have bleeding or anything, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I would keep an eye on baby's movements - I think you're supposed to feel about 10 separate ones per day iirc. Your baby is probably asleep and you'll feel happier when he/she wakes up if it was me I'd give mine a little prod
