Having waters broken

Hi there! Currently in hospital for induction. I've been examined and told I don't need any gel/ pessaries and that I can have my waters broken on the delivery unit. Does anyone have any experience with this? What was it like and how long did you have to wait to go up to delivery?

It depends- are you dilated at all already? I had dull aches for a week before my waters were broken. The hospital told me to expect it to take 6-8 hours until I was in active labour but 1.5 hours later I'd had the baby. It massively sped up labour! Good luck, hopefully will be a quick one for you x

Yes happened to me with DD2. I arrived at hospital at 10:30. Was examined at midday and advised that my waters could be broken when they had a bed available on the delivery suite. I was sent down at about 18:30, waters broken at 20:00 and she arrived at 22:40!

Contractions were more intense than when I had DD1 but the whole thing was much quicker. Think I was only having strong contractions for about 30 minutes before she arrived.

Good luck!

My waters were broken at 9, labour started around an hour later, baby born 1.56 am. The most painful experience (baby no. 3).

Knowing other peoples length of wait for an ARM won't help you unfortunately. They could have a bed and a midwife available right now, or they might not have those 2 magic things available for another 5 days. The longest I've seen someone wait is 9 days.

An arm is just an examination with a bit more rummaging around, isn't painful. Then there's a big gush of hopefully clear liquor.
