This just really confuses me.
There's newborn, 0-3 upto 7lbs upto 10lbs I just find it baffling which size I'm supposed to choose for a newborn baby Advice would be appreciated.

Weight doesn't always correlate with size as much as yours think oddly. My 8lb 2oz child was a bit swamped by newborn, though grew quickly - she was in them for maybe 3 weeks. I know others with babies the same weight who went straight into 0-3m.

My second was 7lb, which 'should' have gone into newborn clothes but was so diddy that we had to get early baby clothes for her. It took her a couple of weeks to grow into newborn and didn't go into 0-3m for 6w+.

I grow very 'dense' children 😂

I went with newborn and other people bought varying sizes as gifts so I had a range of stuff.

Thanks guys, I think I'm best opting for 0-3 months then so ar least they will eventually be used and I'll also pick up a few smaller sizes to do a few days after baby is born just incase and hopefully then I can get a better idea of size

Definitely get a good few bits in newborn @NightSkyWanderer - say 7 sleepsuits and 2 packs of vests. The reason I say this is that I went through 3 of each in my first 24 hours of being a parent. One outfit was destroyed from the meconium nappy and he vomited "products of delivery" twice. He was a fairly average size baby (7 pounds 10oz) though long and was wearing newborn until about 4 weeks old. You don't want to be putting on a wash as soon as you get in from hospital either.

In 0-3 I'd say at least 2 packs of vests and 10 sleepsuits or outfits.

Really sorry to hear your pregnancy has been so difficult and the timing with the split/move must be such a lot of extra weight on top of that. It's fully understandable that you want to be as prepared as you can. Let me know if I can help with any other prep questions you might have. I was induced at 39+6 since I had GD, and happy to share info on that as well if you'd find it helpful.

You're going to be a great mum Flowers

My baby was 8lb and at 5 weeks has just grown out of most Newborn stuff lengthwise.

I got loads of great quality and condition bundles inexpensively on vinted. Sainsburys and h&m are perfectly good and nice soft cotton.
Muslins
Ss vests
Sleepsuits
Crib sheets and mattress protectors
Tip on here was to buy the Newborn stuff close to delivery so you can return or exchange them for a larger size if needed, but depends on your local delivery/returns drop-off situation.

Gifts we received were all 0-3 or 3-6 months.

Enjoy this time and your new arrival! Best of luck.

Why are you saying you don't want to be straight out running around looking for clothes? You wouldn't be. If he'd been small I'd have asked DH to go pick some up from the asda 5 mins from our house or ask our parents to pick some up for us! DH wasn't allowed to stay overnight in with us, and parents wanted to come see new grandchild anyway!

You need to read her posts - she has split with her partner and has little family support.

My little man was born at 6Ib6oz and required newborn clothing, due to 0-3 months being too big. He then moved into upto 1 month clothing and now at 2 months he is in 0-3 months. It will all depend on how big your little one will be. I would pack one newborn and one 0-3 months outfit.

Hi @FlyingHighFlyingLow
I'm no longer with my partner who is the babys father. To be honest , we're barely on speaking terms.
I've never gave birth before but I'd imagine I won't feel like leaving hospital after birth with a newborn going shopping for clothes and If I had a c section or anything I wouldn't be on my feet anyway.
I have little help as parents are elderly . I don't have much of a social circle to help out as its very small, and the two close childhood friends I have don't live in the same country as myself anymore so I'm pretty much on my own trying to gather clothing ect. I plan on ordering most online as don't have a supermarket near me but the delivery online takes ages to deliver as I'm not in mainland UK so I didn't want to be left not having anything the right size for when it's born

I bought newborn size for my
first, he was 9.5 pounds and barely squeezed in to them. So I bought 0-3 for my second. He was 5.5 pounds and they swallowed him, so my mum had to dash out and source some ‘tiny baby’ outfits. So basically you don’t know until the baby is here. But you can’t go wrong with 0-3 as all baby’s will grow in to them at some point.

@Dottytea that's what I plan on doing now. I had no idea what centiles meant 😁 ive no clue about any of this . I always assumed there would be newborn and premature sizes but didnt realise there were so many other options

Hi Op 👋
I bought newborn sizes for my first born and they were miles too big (he was 6lb12 and half oz at 12day's late)It's really hard to know tbh.

I knew for the next one to buy teeny baby and newborn (she was 6lb 10 at 14day's late)

and for my third I bought teeny , newborn and 0-3 as people kept saying how massive my bump was (he was 7lb 2oz at 14 day's late)

No longer being with the father doesn't mean he'll be shit with baby. Decent blokes if told their baby needs smaller clothes and asked to buy a pack of premie or newborn vests and sleep suits on way to hospital should oblige, it's for their own child! You said 'we' are moving - who are you moving with? Can't they grab you anything if needed? Not much support isn't no support, even one person can be all you need. You're not alone ❤. Also try facebook marketplace and vinted for baby clothes, especially smaller sizes. Can often get cheap bundles that you can always pass on again if not needed and they only wear for a short time!

shakeitoffsis · 01/03/2024 21:41

Mine were both born 5lb 3oz and wore tiny baby for 6 weeks at least.

KCSIE · 01/03/2024 21:58

I'd plump for a pack of 10 short sleeve vests and 10 babygrows/sleepsuits in 'First Size' (sometimes called 'Up to 1month') and everything else (majority) in 0-3months.

I found that 0-3m clothes was the size we were most gifted with my first baby!

My first baby was about 4weeks old when they outgrew 'First Size' and grew into 0-3m clothes.

My second baby outgrew the first size clothes by 5 days old!

Make sure you've got Amazon Prime, is that next day delivery where you are?

Good luck and wishing you a smooth journey to motherhood 🤞
